About Me

Searching the dials of FM radio one would never know that Hip-Hop was once an energetic craze, believed to be a phase, and an overall explosion of youth creativity and expression. What radio plays today is mass-produced by bean counting trend dictators. Very little of the present day Hip-Hop is real, unless we stop and go back, way back. Ironically one Long Beach bred, Dallas transplant did just that. Enter Yung 1 from stage right. His goal is to bring about a Hip Hop immaculate re-conception, using classic beats and crafty lyricism spawning a renaissance of old school hip-hop in its purest and most innocent form. It is rumored that Yung 1 was born in the recording studio. At a time when most babies sleep sweetly in nurseries, he found slumber in a playpen adjacent to the board at MCA Music Publishing. Born the son of a highly respected music producer, his father would take his son with him to work before trusting the boy to strangers. As a result, Yung often confused mics and drums for toys. Needless to say, he found his niche for rhyming and performing early. Yung 1 learned from the best, sitting in on studio sessions with DJ Quik and WC from West Side Connect Gang. He quickly earned the moniker "Lil Roc" after his father, I-Roc. Yet ever the true hip hop artist, Yung 1 wanted to make it under his own name, paying dues along the way. What is welcoming about Yung 1 is his honest yearning to discover Hip-Hops roots from the source. Having performed all over the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, on stage Yungin is truly a beast. He approaches the mic like a pro, leaving his confident swagga all over the stage and into the crowd. His performances include 97.9 The Beat’s Block Party, sharing the stage with J. Holiday and Soulja Boy. He’s opened up for Erykah Badu at Dallas’ Grenada Theater as well as honored Public Enemy with a tribute performance at the 2008 SXSW Film Festival & Conference. In the ever changing entertainment industry, few things are ever certain but what is definite is lyrical prowess found in this determined young artist. This is no gimmick attempt at nostalgia, but an education about the soul of an urban art form. Given preparation and opportunity, Yung 1 will deliver what we’ve lost. This profile was made at Whateverlife.com! :)
