Get your own countdown at BlingyBlob.com What obsolete skill are you?
You are 'regularly metric verse'. This can take many forms, including heroic couplets, blank verse, and other iambic pentameters, for example. It has not been used much since the nineteenth century; modern poets tend to prefer rhyme without meter, or even poetry with neither rhyme nor meter. You appreciate the beautiful things in life--the joy of music, the color of leaves falling, the rhythm of a heartbeat. You see life itself as a series of little poems. The result (or is it the cause?) is that you are pensive and often melancholy. You enjoy the company of other people, but they find you unexcitable and depressing. Your problem is that regularly metric verse has been obsolete for a long time.

Music:

old soul, new soul, classical, gospel and christian music (the clark sisters, *hymns*, mary mary, kirk franklin, praise & worship tunes), (musical) soundtracks (little shop of horrors, the wizard of oz, chicago, dreamgirls, chicago, porgy and bess...), opera, vocal jazz/blues (nina simone, ella fitzgerald, sarah vaughn, judy garland--she had soul) or miles and the gang, easy listening a la harry connick, jr.--john mayer--burt b. and ronald i., some completely sick rock, some hip hop, sweet honey in the rock, and old skool r&b. you know, the good stuff ;) TAKE 6 is my favorite group of all time.basically, whatever gets my foot tappin, my head swayin, and/or my fanga snapping followed by a "shoot, that's alright!" good music energizes me--and i mean GOOD music--or moves me to contemplation and introspection. good music gets under my skin, in my head, tunnels down on the inside of me gets all the good stuff going.there are, however, three songs that i love and seem to collect arrangements of: (somewhere) over the rainbow (from the wizard of oz), my funny valentine (from babes in arms), summertime (from porgy and bess),a newer addition to these is you'll never walk alone (from Carousel). overall, i love standards and love to see what different voices and personalities can do with them while staying true to the soul of the song--and yes, songs have souls ;) and song that can just rip my soul out is "for all we know" as sung by donny hathaway, though the version sung by nina simone is quite beautiful also... width="425" height="350" ....

Movies:

The Color Purple, A League of Their Own, Pan's Labyrinth, City of God, The Wiz, The Wizard of Oz, Napoleon Dynamite, Edward Scissorhands, Identity, Frailty, Frequency, PeeWee's Big Adventure, The original Amityville Horror, *classic* horror films, Carmen Jones, The Princess Bride, Love Actually, Head of State, Knocked Up (hate the name!), Shaun of the Dead, and other stuffs.

Television:

hmmm, let's see: monk, csi: LAS VEGAS, Law & Order: SVU, HEROES, THE WIRE, House, Grey's Anatomy (maybe... i don't watch much tv these days...), medium, studio 60, psych (on USA).old skool: the twilight zone (with brother serling), alfred hitchcock presents, cosby show, a different world (from the 2nd season onward)...shoot, and the rest i take it as it comes. it takes too much to remember all this old stuff...

Books:

I always hate listing favorites because I just like what I like, but at the top of the list:Their Eyes Were Watching God (Hurston), Song of Solomon (Morrison), The Collected Poems of Audre Lorde, The Joy Luck Club (Tan), The Secret Life of Bees (Kidd), Memoirs of A Geisha (Golden), In Search of Our Mothers' Gardens (Walker), Blindness (Saramago), The Handmaid's Tale (Atwood), Sailing Around the Room Alone (Collins), Naked (Sedaris), Invisible Man (Ellison), for colored girls...(Shange), Erasure (Everett), It (King), Lisey's Story (King).I'm also a big Octavia Butler fan, namely Bloodchild and Other Stories, Kindred, and Parable of the Sower; Tananarive Due is also a wonderful author: The Between, Good House, and Joplin's Ghost.I love to read as much as I can, when I get the luxury of reading something other than texts for my classes, that is. for my sanity's sake, i make time to read something just for ME.Currently building my library of African American Literature and black women's writing. Self-proclaimed library junkie :)in other words, i love THE GOOD STUFF ;)so i'm just slowly gathering my books to prepare for COMPREHENSIVE EXAM and DISSERTATION time :D
You Should Get a PhD in Liberal Arts (like political science, literature, or philosophy)
You're a great thinker and a true philosopher.
You'd make a talented professor or writer. What Advanced Degree Should You Get?...somebody's warm...

Heroes:

my jesus, i love thee. my late mama who showed great dignity in her fight with stomach cancer and shaped my life in ways that i have yet to discover.Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. --The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
