Rakesh Tewari

Born in the Maritimes and widely sought after for his deep groove and sensitive musicality, Rakesh records and performs within a multitude of musical genres and has been playing professionally in Canada and abroad for well over two decades. Having studied classical piano from age five, this drummer, percussionist, composer brings the subtleties of many worlds to the stage, from drum set, classical percussion, tabla and other folkloric percussion.A small cross-section of his diversity would include collaborations with Juno awarded artist Madagascar Slim; LAL; d’bi young and the dubbin.revolushun.gangstars; The Toronto Tabla Ensemble; Shelly Berger; Lisa Patterson; Rita di Ghent; Andrea Koziol; The Avataar Collective; Tanya Tagaq Gillis & Digging Roots; Gord Downie and Coke Machine Glow & Rhea’s Obsession.Rakesh teaches privately and facilitates workshops at his studio in Toronto (NadaBrahma Creations), which also serves as a project recording facility (having just completed scoring the feature film – ‘BollyDouble’), through the Toronto District School Board and Toronto Community Living. A definite roaming spirit, Rakesh continues to study, tour and journey internationally.
