JUBBA

About Me

Born to a place that is known for breeding and cultivating musicians, Deleon “Jubba” White originates from the South Central part of Jamaica. It was clear at a very young age that music ran through his veins, when he began singing and playing the drums on pots and pans around his home. By the time Jubba finished high school, he was already performing on professional stages and taking every opportunity to play music. After high school, he made a move to solidify his career as a musician by enrolling in the Edna Manley College of Visual & Performing Arts. While there he studied music under the likes of accomplished Jamaican guitarist, Maurice Gordon. In early 1997, he was given his first opportunity to play on International stages when he began touring with the Mightly Diamonds, The Ethiopians, Heptones, Johnny Kool and other foundation artists as a member of the Ruption Band. Around the same period of time, he also started his recording career. Jubba found comfort while recording at Tuff Gong Studios (the studios of the legendary Bob Marley.) and since then Tuff Gong has been his musical home. He also worked for a number of years as the personal drummer in the bands of two very outstanding artists of present day roots reggae - Bushman and Junior Kelly, resulting in the participation on Bushman’s “Signs” and Junior Kelly’s “Smile” & “Tough Life” albums. Traveling through different stages of his musical journey also found him working with an icon in the French reggae industry, Pierpoljak. This merger between Jubba, his kru (then known as Stim Turban) and Pierpoljak resulted in two albums and a number of concerts across French territories. Jubba has lent his muscial talents to albums such as Burning Spear’s grammy nominated “Freeman”, Capelton’s “Reign of Fire” and Richie Spice’s “Spice in your Life” and rythms such as "I Swear" which featured Richie Spice's "Marijuana Pon di Corner" and Chuck Fenda's "I Swear"; "Ready to Party"-Voicemail; "Downtown Girl" - D'Angel. He has also recorded and performed with the likes of Toots Hibbert, Max Romeo, Ijahman Levi, Maurice Gordon, Mutabaruka, Jah Mason, Luciano, Anthony B.... Jubba, along with his kru, will no doubt continue to create waves on Jamaican music scene and the music industry as a whole as an exceptional musician, composer and producer. The sky is the limit.
