Band Genesis
The Sexies hail from many different musical backgrounds, accounting for the eclectic but cohesive and original sound they now claim as their own. Though funk stylings are clearly audible in their playing, one can also hear the influences of rock and the vestiges of jazz harmony.
Band Members and Description in no particular order of importance:
Li Xiao' an: Guitarist and Vocalist
Xiao'an picked up guitar in 2004, and nothing's ever been the same ever since. Favouring a clean style with funk and fusion influences, some smooth chords and an undying devotion to groove, he adds zip and edge to the band's arrangements, which are, incidentally, also mostly his work.
Melvin Loh Han Xiang: Percussionist and Drummer
Melvin has been learning to beat the shit out of anything from animal skins to inanimate bits of plastic since he was seven years old, and his clear and decisive savagery toward anything that makes a sound when hit makes him a powerful drummer. However, he likes to be nice to his skins sometimes and plays a mean groove.
David Siow Wen Seng: Bassist and Vocalist
Though David plays a guitar with only 4 strings, the skill with which he manoeuvres the fretboard has left many an audience member speechless, since it's pretty hard to say anything if you're on the floor laughing.
Cheryl Francisca Lee Seow Wen: Keyboardist and Vocalist
Where the guitar adds edge, Cheryl adds class and sophistication with keyboard parts that are the crowning touch of many of our songs. Her musicianship and appropriately supportive pads and lines allow our music to reach a level of listenability without compromising our modern sound.
