They Go Boom!! 1989-1999
Daryl Smith - voice
Mike Innes - electronics
Early examples of Mike & Daryl's bedroom electronic pop can be found on the cassette-only releases, MYOPIA and WE TOUCH THE LIVES OF ORDINARY FOLK. These songs caught the attention of Stephen Maughan, author of This Almighty Pop fanzine and his enthusiasm for the band resulted in the release of TGB!!'s first vinyl release - a two-track flexi entitled THE SUMMER'S ON ITS WAY on Stephen's Dolphin 7 label and distributed with TAP4.
Next came interest from Germany and the US, the Blam-A-Bit label and Sunday Records both offering a 7" single deal. In July 1991 the band recorded eight songs, some of which became the EUROPOP and RUBY LOUNGE EPs. The next two years witnessed the arrival of the WOODY ALLEN EP, the BEYOND TOMORROW 12" and several CD compilation contributions, plus work started on their debut LP, ATLANTIC.
TGB!! performed live for the first time in January '94 in Bordeaux, France. On the same bill were San Sebastian's La Buena Vida, whose their label-owner, Mateo of Siesta Records was sufficiently interested in TGB!! to arrange for them to play two gigs in Madrid the following April. The band then packed their stage clothes and went back to what they knew best - writing and recording songs. It wasn't too long before T.G.B had signed to Siesta and recorded their second LP, GRANDE VITESSE, which was released in September '96.
Summer '97 then saw the release of an EP, ISLAND NATION, again on Siesta, and available in both CD and 7" formats. In September of the same year, TGB!! were invited to play alongside such bands as Celeste and the Acid House Kings at Stockholm's International Pop Underground 3, at which the familiar duo became a trio with the input on guitar of Denis Pasero from French indie-pop heroes Caramel.
Following this, TGB!! began work on their third LP, which was completed in early 1999 and remains unreleased to date.
