BERWICK MUSIC STARS LINE UP TO PLAY CHARITY SHOWCASE
Stars of the Berwick music scene play a special home-town charity gig on Friday 25 th April at Barrels Ale House on Bridge Street. The gig, entitled Acoostie, has been arranged as part of the nationwide Oxjam music festival. Acoostie is an ambitious venture which will see unplugged sets from members of Berwick bands Roy’s Iron DNA, The Briganties, Espionage of the Loc, Saint Monday (featuring Lizzie Bell) and The Hudson Social. Also on the bill are solo artists, Mark Reid and Marwood.
Oxjam is a month-long music festival taking place throughout the UK during April to raise money for the charity, Oxfam. The 2006 festival, the first of its kind, saw more than 1,000 events take place across the country and raised more than £500,000. Last year’s festival in October raised over £1 million for Oxfam.
Co-organiser of the Acoostie event, Jonny Gray from Berwick Bands Collective, said: “Oxjam is a great event which has been running in towns and cities across the UK with great music scenes for the last couple of years. In Berwick, we’ve got a thriving music scene of our own so it seemed like the obvious thing to stage our own leg of the festival to support the charity. We’ve put together a fantastic lineup, all we need now is the music lovers of the town to come along to Acoostie and have a good time.â€
The show kicks off at 8pm and runs until late. Entry is £3, and all profits go to helping Oxfam’s work in countries around the world. For more information, please visit www.oxfam.org.uk /oxjam
