A message from The Famous Poet Derek Meins:
"Throughout my life I have learned many different things; some of which I find impossible to fathom and most of which I believe are not true. These things seem to erase themselves from my memory soon after I have "learned" them. History, Geography, peoples names, moral and social conduct, telephone numbers; the lists are never ending and utterely pointless. These days, a head can easily find itself filled to the brim with nonsensical and irritating "information", trying to avoid this is, I beleive, the best plan.
Recently, though, I have learned one thing that falls into a completely different catogory altogether. This is something that should be remembered at all times, especially when frustration runs thick in your veins. What I have learned is that no matter what you find yourself doing, wherever you may be headed, your final destination will always be at the top of a gigantic hill. These hills tend to differ depending on your circumstance and mood. For example, if you begin to feel that life is an oyster that holds no pearl inside, this is when you will be faced with a hill so steep that it is impossible to see the top. The Uphill Struggle. This is the lesson I have learned. The hill may take many different forms but they will always be hard to climb. Ask Sisyphus.
It is generally believed that something must change when you become "Dead". Perhaps this means that after shifting from this mortal coil we will all reach the top of our hill and be free to stroll gaily down the otherside, without worry or woe. Perhaps not.
These people who are counting from the wrong end may be under the impression that I am young. This would be a foolish assumption. My name is Derek Meins. I am getting old and there are still things that must be done. I perform songs and poems relating to The Uphill Struggle amongst other things. I do hope that someday when I reach my summit I am able to look behind me and laugh before sauntering lazily back down the otherside. I am aware though, that I will probably complain of pains in my calf muscles after walking down hill for a while. Oh, well, it is the human condition after all......... "
