JON BEHRENS FILMMAKER, PHOTOGRAPHER AND SOUND DESIGNER
Jon Behrens was born on May 12th 1964 in Eugene Oregon he began to make films as a teenager in the late seventies. Since the age of 16 Behrens has made well over 100 films of various lengths and subject matters and approaches, from documents of the early punk rock scene to poetic film experiments in which the celluloid film stock itself has been manipulated. Behrens has screened his films in cities throughout the World and has been called one of Northwest's most prolific filmmakers. in addition to filmmaking Jon Behrens has also put on a large number of film screenings over the years around Seattle and abroad including a quarterly film program called Third Eye Cinema that show cases mostly experimental and avant garde films made by local and international contemporary and legendary film artists and was also the co founder of the now defunct but legendary Seattle Underground Film Festival and Summer Movie Madness a weekly outdoor event that was held annually during the summer months under the stars on the back patio of Linda's Tavern for 12 years straight. In addition to the filmmaking and screenings Jon has also been an avid film collector of 16 and 35mm films and many of the films screened at his shows come right from is own personal collection. In addition to all of this he still manages to find time to do a at fair amount of photography and has recently started to experiment with recording sound designs and hopes to have an album out soon. Jon has also taught workshops and classes on experimental film at Northwest Film Forum and the AFLN. Jon Behrens lives and works in Seattle.
