Coffee Date started life as a short film, first screened at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Sept 2000. Written and directed by Stewart Wade, the seventeen minute short went on to play over 35 festivals worlwide, and win several awards. After several screenings, Stewart was asked if he planned to expand the short into a feature, at first he demurred, saying the short was a self-contained work. But then he too started to wonder, what happened to these two guys...
Cast:
Oscar Nominated Sally Kirkland (ANNA, BRUCE ALMIGHTY) and Jonathan Silverman (WEEKEND AT BERNIES I and II, THE SINGLE GUY) star. They are joined by Deborah Gibson, (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, CABARET), Elaine Hendrix (PARENT TRAP, JOAN OF ARCADIA), Popular gay actor/comic Jason Stuart (A DAY WITHOUT A MEXICAN, 10 ATTITUDES) and as the befuddled romantic interest, daytime TVs Jonathan Bray (YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS)

Synopsis:
Todd (straight) ends up on a blind date with a gay man, Kelly the result of a practical joke played by his brother Barry. To Todds surprise, he and Kelly strike up a friendship. They decide to take revenge on Barry by reversing the joke. After their date, the pair saunter past Barry holding hands. The joke works too well. Freaking out and convinced that Todd is gay. Barry calls their mother to break the news. Concerned, she arrived on the next plane. Despite his vehement denials, Mum now sees Todds love of movies and theater, as well as his lack of interest in sports, as the clear signs shes previously missed. She is determined to prove to her son that she loves him no matter what. Nothing Todd says or does can convince her that hes actually straight! Soon, everyone in his life believes he is gay. His frantic attempts to prove his heterosexuality with a sexy younger women ends in disaster. He starts to wonder Could his feelings for Kelly be more than hes ever suspected..?
