I was founded in 1825 where an old Native American Trail crossed the Huron
River.
Named after a Greek freedom fighter, Demetrius Ypsilanti, I started to grow in
1838 when the railroad first arrived. A small comercial settlement srung up around
it which became know as depot town.
Several years later a road was built to stretch from Chicago to Detroit which passed
just west of the river and another comerical district arose.
In 1849 a teaching college was established in me and would become known as
Eastern Michigan University.
In 1941 Ford built a factory in me and I churned out many war planes during
World War II.
In 1967 I had a serial killer named Norman Collins, the
Michigan Murderer or the co-ed killer as he was also known, who killed seven women in the two years that he
was on my streets.
In 1979 I held my first heritage Festivale and have done so every year since.
I have a population of 25,000.
Ann Arbor may look down upon me but she's an elitist asshole who who wouldn't
know fun unless it was an over priced pseudo artistic lawn ornament.
I am Ypsilanti and I rule.
