About Me

SHOPLIFTERS have been going for years; ages in fact. The current line up was completed by 4 lads from the welsh valleys. Bassist Rhys Anslow from Garndiffaith, who is studying for a HND in Music in Neath, was the last to join, in October 2006. Thats when the cog really started ticking. Joel Woodard is currently living and studying for a degree in French in Liverpool, and James Farror is reading Politics in Cardiff, where he now resides. Rhys Townsend is currently rediscovering his talent at football, and recently became a father to a bouncing baby boy named Tristan.
SHOPLIFTERS took their name from a Morrissey and Marr song. It's the music that counts though, and it's the music that has made the shoplifters a unique and diverse unit. They formed in an age where new rave was on the rise, and jangly guitar 'indie' bands sung love songs. They formed in an age where war seemed acceptable, and thousands of civilians and troops deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan and many other war-torn countries, lost their lives, because of poor bureaucracy and diplomacy. They formed in an age where religion played an even bigger part in being responsible for most of the wars around the world.
SHOPLIFTERS are political junkies. They write, and will continue to write music about repression, oppression and discretion. Alienation, determination and admiration play a big role too.
SHOPLIFTERS come with a message: did justice ever come at a bigger price?
