About Me

Raised in Lawrence Kansas, the youngest of three, in a family of artists, Michael Miller grew up watching his mother perform folk music locally during the eighties. Singing as early as talking, Michael learned to play drums for his school band in the fifth grade, taking private and group lessons, which led to his first regular gig, playing drums in a church youth band for several years. They toured on the weekends, visiting many communities. Michael bought his first guitar with hard earned paper route money in the Seventh grade, this was right around time time he co-founded a punk/ska band called The Doozers. They opened at local venues and wherever anyone would give them a little time. He received his first bass guitar as a gift in the ninth grade and continues to wield a variety of instruments and picks out melodies, on wood and stringed instruments, and still loves to bang on drums and percussion instruments. In High school Michael branched out more, participating in an award winning choir, singing and dancing for musical theater, this is when he began taking private voice lessons, Michael developed his own unique sound, blending melodic harmonies with smooth and warm tones. Michael sang and toured with a manufactured band called Impact during his last year of high school, headlining dozens of large shows, many with an audience of over a thousand, opening a few times for shows with almost ten thousand people. After High school, Michael decided to focus on work and writing poetry, he moved to Kansas City where he sang background vocals and played bass and guitar at Sit n' Soak Records for almost four years, and drafted thousands of poems, lyrics and songs. Michael has moved to Los Angeles to pursue music and poetry full-time, working to make ends meet. Jamming with friends, and co-workers, he can often be seen at the Venice Beach drum circle on the weekends. His Vocal style has been described as dynamic, and soaring, combining hints of Reggae, rock, Indy, and everything in between. Singing with influences of Billy Joel, Radio Head, The Eagles, Elliot Smith and countless others. Michael Writes poetry daily and has lent his lyrical talent to several bands as far away as Central Europe. His poetry is layered and thoughtful, generally rhyming, and metered, which lend themselves well to song and storytelling.
