My Interests

I've been trying to lay out my own plan, to get what I feel are my own tools together to help the people I was meant to serve...Everyone's got a path and I am on the right one (for now)..I say all that simply to mean that my interests really don't lie too far outside of whatever is needed to fulfill that path--school, work, family, and a coupla community projects here and there...

Music:

..I have been getting into more african-derived music in the last 6 months--palenque (Afro Columbian)& this Wanlov haven't left my car's CD player Wanlov the Kubulor --Green Card

Movies:

..We watch tons of movies in my house, and I am normally the person that watches ALL of the movies. Right now, I am LOVING Stardust (although I might be the only person I know that did) because it reminds me of The Princess Bride (a fav)...love Forrest Gump and the Simpson's Movie, too... if it ends in a happy/funny way, I probably like it..And just to shake things up a bit, I absolutely loved Shottas (Kymani Marley is in it) and American Gangster...even though I don't really like glamorization of the "thug life"...how about this video of our recent trip to SVG?!? not too bad!

Television:

..I watch the best week ever, Farmers Almanac TV (PBS), History Detectives (on PBS),Naked Archeologist,and Intervention as much as possible (not much)...I really don't watch as much TV as it would appear if you were reading this and didn't know me...Television is becoming my only source of information outside of school, and I am more interested in whats on TV when I am watching.

Books:

..Seeing my occupation, you should understand that I LOVE children's books...Ezra Jack Keats and Mercer Mayer are my very favorites...MY favorite books in the world (I read them at least once a year) are One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez,The Known World by Edward P. Jones, The Red Tent by Anita Diament, anything by Toni Morrison--Song of Solomon and Love are tops, Zami (A New Spelling of my Name) by Audrey Lorde, Mama Lola , and of course the DaVinci Code (probably the first book I shared with my husband). OH! and who can forget 17 to Life by Oronde Ash?!? that was a good one.

Heroes:

....Women of character with some humor who have survived life and can still say they did their best to raise a family...children who have lived through life's worst tragedies and still want to be good people...anyone who finds and follows their dreams, no matter the cost.....
