See. Hear. Speak. Embrace
The Oral Tradition.

About Me

BlackPoet Ventures is a multimedia performance arts and entertainment company dedicated to promoting, supporting and enhancing the oral tradition artistry of poetry and spoken word movements of the African Diaspora.
Formed July 2005 because of a passion for poetry, Black Poet Ventures set out to bring poetry and literature to the stage in theatrical and thematic contexts in order to take audiences beyond open mic and slam poetry arenas.
A theatre critic stated: "While literature is often meant to be simply a blueprint for performance, the poetic theatre being returned to us by the performance poets and the like are making the literature of the theatre more interesting... the poets and writers are helping to reinvigorate the fetish we had for live performance to begin with."
Our goals to make performance poetry more interesting include:
Building business and community partnerships to further the support for and growth of poetry and spoken word movements
Providing quality educational and inspirational entertainment through theatrical productions that showcase poets and spoken word as well as expose poetic literary to various audiences
Establishing economic avenues and growth opportunities for artists
Creating effective marketing campaigns that honor the oral tradition and that bring poetry back to the people
Researching the oral tradition to successfully implement workshops and document poetic legacies
Join us in keeping poetry in motion!
