About Me

Originally from White Plains, New York: Tabu is an actress and poet that grew up in Summerton, SC and currently, resides in Columbia, South Carolina. Tabu has a Bachelor's Degree with a minor in Theater/Education and a major in English from Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She taught theater for eight years in Richland School District One. Currently, she is a Guidance Counselor in Calhoun School District. She is a May 2007, graduate of South Carolina State University. Tabu began her theatre career as a Henderson Davis Player at SCSU. She has performed in several productions that includes Shaking the Mess Outta Misery (1994) Purlie Victorious (1998), The Wiz (2000) The Vagina Monologue (2006) and is currently in a production, entitled "Not Without God" which is set to open May 26, 2007. Tabu has featured and performed at many venues, locally, including JazzPoetry Garaj-Lyman,SC, TK Gregg Recreation Center-Spartanburg, SC, Barnes and Noble's Poetry event-Spartanburg, SC, South Carolina State University, Three Bean Net Cafe - Lexington,SC and has made several appearances with Parallel Worlds. Tabu also performs with "Life Support," a duet team group. Tabu is a member of the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Columbia Poetry Slam Team. She has two daughters Jasmine and Charvion. Tabu's interests are acting, poetry, Praise-Dancing, working with children, and exercising.
