About Me

There are times when I come across an artist that I do not wish to classify in a music group. Chris Holcombe is one of these artists. His music is unique but not so far-fetched that a person might not “get it.” Mississippi Rain is a thought provoking tune that triggers my curiosity to the details of the story that’s behind this song...His vocals are simple yet strong, perfectly representing the wonderful melody. -- The Music Review
Chris' sound defies the fact that he is so young. It's a mature sound, vocally and lyrically. -- Upbeat Radio *Mississippi Rain Featured ShowStopper Track*
Solid sounding, enjoyable song, with a nice bit of classic Soul flavor...a pleasing hybrid...strong job all around! -- TAXI A&R
Chris talking about Hurricanes:
This is an EP that I recorded twice. It first started out as a straight up pop/rock CD. But I didn't think it represented who I was as an artist and as a writer. I grew up listening to motown, so when I decided to re-record it, Ben Strano (my producer) told me to pursue a more bluesy, soulful sound.
We built the entire CD around the song Mississippi Rain. That song is about the rise and fall of a passionate relationship. Like southern thunderstorms, they arrive and leave quickly, but you can still smell the rain after it's gone just like you can still sense a departed lover.
All the songs are about love, sex, and loss. The thrill of discovery, the pain of rejection, the need for forgiveness. Better Mistakes is about leaving someone that could've been your greatest love. Dirty Blood is about being invisible and wanting your existence to be recognized by at least one person.
I felt that ending the CD with a cover of A Long December was a nice recap of all that went on in the previous songs. I always felt that song to be autobiographical anyway, even though I didn't write it: asking to be forgiven, moving to California, wanting to see the ocean and essentially to start a new life, a more fulfilling one. Ben kept having me sing take after take, trying to get me to that place. It took half a night and half a bottle of some cheap whiskey, but we got it! --excerpt from Craft Revolution interview
