About Me

The rigors of work, marriage, and parenthood, which are very rewarding, don't leave much leisure time for artistic pursuits. I did buy a nice new Nikkon D80 digital camera with the intent that I could pursue some artistic outlet on family photography. I'm living in Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm a transplant from Seattle, which I still love and miss dearly. I miss the sound of the rain falling through the evergreen trees through my open bedroom window. It was so peaceful. It was great to wake up to that on a Saturday morning. After a stint at at BYU, I ended up in Salt Lake City and never left. I swore I'd never end up in Utah, yet here I am...and I love it. I married Michelle Buehner on May 11, 2000. We have 5 totally awesome kids. I know I am bias, but my kids rock! I am a mortgage broker and real estate agent...I'm really still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up, though. For being someone who is right brained and loves the arts, I'm not sure how I ended up doing mortgages. Life is pretty busy with being self employed, enjoying five young kids, being a husband, and working on homes I fix up and flip--but my life is great. It seems I never have enough time though. I'd love to have more time to get back into my hobbies like writing and photography. I'v always been a pretty social person, and as a family man, my wife and I enjoy throwing BBQ's, throwing Superbowl and New Years Eve parties, going to dinner and movies with other couples, and taveling with our friends and their kids! After all, our friendships and relationships are all that realy matter in this life--especially with our own family and in particular, our kids. No one is going to wish they had spent more time at work once on their death bed, to use a cliche. My Interests

Sushi with my wife (I've got my kids eating it now too! Wow!)Wake Boarding, Snow Mobiling, and Rock Climbing are passions. Taking the family to an art festival is a favorite! That is one thing I miss about Seattle--the huge art festivals. Having friends over for Guitar Hero parties. Sitting on the beach with a dramatically overcast sky on the Oregon Coast--my senses consumed with the wind in my hair, the smell and taste of the sea, the sand on my feet--is about as close to Nirvana as I could hope to be. I learned this from my father, but I think it is both nuture and nature in me.Going with my wife to the St. George home show and seeing the amazing homes built in the red rocks of southern Utah. Golf (more of a beginner really). Traveling to our home in St. George with friends and family.I love going to the movies. Traveling is very important to me and hopefully we can start doing more as the kids get older. I enjoy building and working on computers, and have considered a second career in computers and networking. I love remodeling houses and building. I've only done a few, but it's a lot of fun. It's one thing career wise I love to do. I don't especially love doing mortgages, but it has made a descent living for me and my family, and I get to work from home and be with my kids. Growing up I always wanted to be a writer so I could work from home and be with my family during the day. I was able to accomplish that...just not writing all day--but maybe someday still I can do that. Writing is my favorite creative outlet. I love movies, photography, and reading.

I'd like to meet:

It would be great to connect with old friends from my entire life, so don't hesitate to message me or add me as a friend. I would like to meet other people who have a passion for the music of Dead Can Dance, Arcana, Lisa Gerrard, Brendan Perry. People who yearn to see, to hear, to understand. People who must write. I'm amazed by people who create. People who love photography, and art of any form. I'd love to hear from people in other countries...there ideas, thoughts, struggles, sufferings, joys, politics, and pontifications. Feel free to message me anytime--we're all just along for the ride on this spaceship called earth.
Do not walk behind me, I may not lead. Do not walk in front of me, I may not follow. Walk beside me, and be my friend. -- Albert Camus

Music:

Cold Play, Onerepublic, Dido, Francis Cabrel, Everything But the Girl, Shelleyan Orphan, VNV Nation, Snow Patrol, IAMX, U2, Shiny Toy Guns, NIN, Anything Box, Delerium, ABBA, Rush, Sarah Mclachlan. The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order and OMD defined my youth and continue to influence. New Age Music. Classical. I picked up a love for Country Music too somehow, which was lucky since my wife is a country music kind of gal. The music that really moves me are neo classical bands such as Dead Can Dance, Brendan Perry, Lisa Gerrard, Arcana, Nox Arcana. But Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Shiny Toy Guns can find that sweet spot in my soul too.

Movies:

Gladiator, The Fountain, August Rush, The English Patient, Dan in Real Life, 300, Braveheart, Shindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Full Metal Jacket, Last of the Mohicans, Something's Gotta Give, Sunshine, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Lord of the Rings, The 1st Matrix movie,

Television:

Pretty much anything on History Channel, Discovery Channel, and HGTV. Shows I like are Dexter, Sopranos, The Tudors, Six Feet Under, Rome, American Idol (when watching with my kids), The Office, House, CSI, Star Trek (both the origonal 60's versin and next generation),

Books:

Book of Mormon, Power vs Force, The Power of Now, Lord of the Rings series, C.S. Lewis, A Natural History of the Senses by Diane Ackerman

Heroes:

Both Martin L Gore of Depeche Mode and Robert Smith of the Cure amaze me with their deeply felt and imaginative lyrics. Few artists have been able to match the raw emotion and talent of Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry of Dead Can Dance. Lis Gerrard truly possesses an instrument of the Gods in her voice. George Washington, Porter Rockwell, Charlton Heston, Ronald Reagan (not a perfect man, but you have to admire him crushing communism), C.S. Lewis, General Norman SchwartzkopfNever insult 7 men when all you are packing is a 6 shooter."I see", said the blind man.Do not walk behind me, I may not lead. Do not walk in front of me, I may not follow. Walk beside me, and be my friend. -- Albert Camus"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.""My way of joking is to tell the truth. It's the funniest joke in the world".."The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain."The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed. - Carl Gustav Jung"My most beautiful poem? I didn't write it. From the deepest depths it rose. I kept it silent.Mascha Kaleko"Once you have flown, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return. (Leonardo Da Vinci)""...the land is the way of the body....the sea is the way of the soul ... "
