Hi, I'm Mike Benyon the writer of "The Ghost of Sarah Haunting", a musical that was first produced in 2000 and then in 2004, both times at the Millfield Theatre in Edmonton, London. The second of these productions saw a re-write of the script and lyrics with Frank Jones.
Three of these songs are from the 2000 studio recordings of "The Ghost of Sarah Haunting". The show has undergone a number of changes since then but they give a flavour of the sort of styles that the show incorporates. "It Can't be a Dream" is sung by David Short, "I Met Jerry" by David Short, Liz Langham and Tracie Mullin, while "Morning Come Soon" is sung by Laura Nayman. The other song "Dance of the Dead" is a recording that was used for rehearsals and was done in the studio in my loft!
These recordings are far from perfect and I am planning to re-record the show over the coming months and will give the new recordings a first airing of them on this site!
You can find out more about the musical by logging onto the website www.sarahhaunting.co.uk . At the moment the show is being orchestrated and it is hoped to get it published over the coming year. It will then be available for production by other companies.
I will also be re-designing the Sarah Haunting website in the next couple of
months.
My other aim with this space is to profile other new musicals and you will see from some of my myspace friends that they have been producing musicals all around the globe. It is very much a pity that there are very few new musicals in the UK, with the West End largely made up of established favourites like Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera complemented by the "karaoke" musicals such as Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You. While these are enjoyable productions, it seems a pity that audiences are getting out of the habit of going to see new shows. At a recent showing of the incredible "Wicked" at the Victoria Palace Theatre I overheard a number of people complaining that they didn't know any of the tunes!

IT'S HARD TO BE IN LOVE WHEN YOU'RE A VAMPIRE
SO HARD TO BE IN LOVE WHEN YOU'RE UNDEAD
WHEN SHE ASKS YOU FOR TEA AT TWO
THERE'S LITTLE ELSE THAT YOU CAN DO
THAN TRY TO FIND A BETTER TIME INSTEAD
DINNER AT EIGHT WOULD BE JUST GREAT
A MEAL AT NINE WOULD BE DIVINE
BUT BETTER STILL A MIDNIGHT FEAST IN BED
IT'S HARD TO BE IN LOVE WHEN YOU'RE A VAMPIRE
SO HARD TO BE IN LOVE WHEN YOU'RE UNDEAD
AND WHEN SHE SAYS PLEASE TAKE A PECK
MY LIPS THEY MOVE RIGHT DOWN HER NECK
I FIND I'D RATHER TAKE A BITE INSTEAD
AND WHEN SHE SAYS MAKE LOVE TO ME
THE CRAVE FOR BLOOD OVERWHELMINGLY
TURNS MY TEETH FROM PERFECT WHITE TO RED
IT'S HARD TO BE IN LOVE WHEN YOU'RE A VAMPIRE
SO HARD TO BE IN LOVE WHEN YOU'RE UNDEAD
WHEN SHE DECLARES THAT SHE'S IN LOVE
I LOOK UP TO THE STARS ABOVE
AND TELL HER THAT PERHAPS ONE DAY WE'LL WED
WHEN SHE SAYS THAT THE CHURCH WOULD BE
THE BEST PLACE FOR THE CEREMONY
WELL I PROPOSE THE MORTUARY INSTEAD
IT'S HARD TO BE IN LOVE WHEN YOU'RE A VAMPIRE
SO HARD TO BE IN LOVE WHEN YOU'RE UNDEAD
