Cody Giannotti/Photon is a Multi-Instrumental Beatboxer, Experimental Musician, Composer, Poet/Writer, Director, Sound/Video Designer and Educator. Photon uses live-looping technology to fuse traditional styles of hip-hop, scat and storytelling with elements of funk and jazz to address issues surrounding activism and social change. Cody is classically trained in Bel canto voice method as well as Suzuki piano and has been beatboxing from childhood. He is a voice, beatbox and vocal composition instructor at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory as well as at New College of California.
Cody recently premired his latest evening length show, "10 Minutes: A Fusion Rapretta," a story of loyalty, trust and queer identity at the Faultline Festival. He has worked with the Erika Shuch Performance (ESP) Project, San Francisco Circus Center, The Drama Mamas, SF Youth Circus, "Stomp" veteran Mina Liccione, Cera of Damage Control Dance Theater, NY Hip-Hop Theater Festival, CounterPULSE, the Intersection for the Arts, Mama Calizo's Voice Factory, SF Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival, Dance Mission, SF International Arts Festival, Project Artaud Theater, Palace of Fine Arts, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, SF Museum of Modern Art and is a member of ArtFace Productions.
Cody holds an M.A. in Performance Activism from the Experimental Performance Institute (EPI) at New College of California and is working toward his M.F.A. which he will receive in the summer of 2007.
