Skinhead culture really started to emerge around 1969, from there to modern day the culture faded and gained strength, but there were always still real skinheads left. Original skins listened to Ska and Reggae, music types influenced by Jamaican immigrants, only later did skins start listening to punk rock. During the punk phase of the skin's history (1970's), a very dark string of events began to take place. Hate groups, seeing that skinheads were all ready feared for thier 'take no shit' additudes and threatening dress, saw a perfect opportunity. These groups began committing violent acts and initiating street-fights; bringing the media's eye down on them. Because they dressed like skinheads, and claimed to be them, the global community soon turned 'skinhead' into a synonym with 'racist'. Seeing the world turn against them, real skinheads knew that something had to be done...and that something was SHARP. Born in New York in 1989, and later spread throughout the world, the SHARP movement's main objective is to educate the masses: Skinheads are not racists! Skinheads are just that, tough as nails, proud skinheads. The terms 'Racist-Skinhead' and 'Nazi-Skinhead' are misnomers, as, if you are a racist, you are not a skinhead.
