About Me

Dan Austin is a singer-songwriter local to the Oxford area known otherwise as the 'Disconsolate Hooter' by friends and fellow musicians. Dan writes, records and produces all of his own material and is currently ploughing his way through a huge back catalogue of songs to get them presentable to listeners' ears. So far it's looking like a long job, but highly enjoyable at the same time!! These 3 songs are examples of some of Dan's earlier material. More to come soon hopefully!!!

Band Members: Just me, Dan, at the moment, but collaborators who have made the whole thing so much richer are: Chris Lacy (ARCHIE), Jim Woods and all those loons at the Ex. who so willingly proffer their beered up guidance. Thanks all.
Influences: Funny mix this, but great songwriters seem to span genres, so here goes:Caetano Veloso, David Gray, Claire Nicolson, Damien Rice, Leonard Cohen, Fleetwood Mac, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Mike Silver, Richard Thompson, Springsteen, Muse, Radiohead, Don Henley, Tracy Chapman, Dolly Parton. It's all about voices and songs - couldn't really give a stuff for how cool they are supposed to be or not.
Sounds Like: Vaguely like a human voice and some dismembered instrumentals. The fact that I'm known around these parts as 'The Disconsolate Hooter' may give some guidance.
