INTRO
It’s not so easy to talk about oneself, I think it’s particularly complicated to describe a personality, even if mine should be the one I know better. I will never do a biography talking in third person because that’s just me talking with you about myself… I was born in the middle of the Seventies. My mother is Italian, my father is German, so I’m a sort of hybrid, I’ve always lived in Italy but I can’t forget my German extraction. I took my first steps in the world of music thanks to my father: during the Sixties and the Seventies so many musical revolutions happened and from his car stereo or the vinyls at home came out the sound of The Beatles, Neil Diamond, ABBA, Elvis… To me the only difference has been to grow up in the Eighties with different influences… In Italy Vasco Rossi and worldwide the U2, Depeche Mode and hundreds names that still characterize the different moments of my days…
OUR WORLD
I approached the discos world when I was a boy, but it was 1993 when I have been dazzled by this universe, when some friends of mine took me to the Imperiale club of Tirrenia, in Tuscany… A never heard sound came into my brain, a never felt world rushed into my heart… A boundless music ranging you far and wide by unexpected sonorities… The atmosphere was enchanted: everybody wanted to enjoy himself without any negative thought: eccentric people trying to stand out thanks to their peculiar style instead of conforming to the current fashion. It was the first time I heard the word “TENDENZA” (more ore less translatable as “tendency”): a philosophy, not a trend…
DJs & CLUBS
The “crisis of abstinence” came at once: it was a world to live, to suck and so I started going to Duplè, to The West, to Taverna Jori, again to the Imperiale, the Insomnia and the Jaiss… many names on the flyers are the same still at the top: Paolo Kighine, Roberto Francesconi, Ricky le Roy, Gabry Fasano, Mario Più, Franchino, Zicky il Giullare, Francesco Farfa, Joy Kitikonti, Miki il Delfino, Luca Pechino, Sandro Vibot, Roby J… others are missing by now, and other new friends have come… But how can we forget the kind of music they played… and the emotions they gave?
MEETINGS & FRIENDS
It was great to frequent the clubs as a guest but it wasn’t enough to me and so I started meeting all the artists joining the Progressive scene in that period; the Imperiale staff asked me to care about its public relations in Milan, but I soon realized that it was not a job suitable to me; I got some engagements for some of them and so I often kept in touch with many artists by phone. In this way I met a person who is nowadays a reference point in my life…
PAOLO KIGHINE
I knew Paolo by phone in 1995 and I was struck very much by his personality, we met a few months later and a strong tie began between us, one of those few friendships fit to be called like that. I started to go with him to almost all the clubs where he had to perform, at first as free-lance, afterwards as resident DJ at the Imperiale then as resident DJ at the Jaiss and this is a whim that I still satisfy every now and then. I won’t talk about our relationship, I’m fond of him and I know that I’ve been very well influenced by him in my growth, he surely helped me to improve my human and artistic behaviour and I just can be very grateful to him. Anyway, talking about him as an artist, in my opinion he is the greatest Italian DJ in the Techno scene. Living next to him made me so fond of music to desire to touch it, to breathe it…that’s why I got the mythical Technics 1210, mixer, headphones, stylus and lots and lots of vinyls… At that very moment as a late self-taught I did realize the meaning of…
…BEING A DJ
The DJ is not someone playing music in a disco every Saturday…there’s someone who is not a DJ even if he plays, there’s someone who is a DJ even if he never performs in the discos… in my opinion I do feel I am a DJ… I adore being the means used by people to have fun, to see people dancing and smiling thanks to me… this excites me a lot. I think this is a quite indescribable feeling… I had the greatest satisfaction of playing at the opening of a club in Tuscany: I played after Paolo while Francesconi was handling the mic…I could never really wish anything better than that (thnaks to Carlo Morgantini found again on the net).
CHOICES
It didn’t last for a long time as in 2000 I faced up a completely different project that took me away from the Techno world (Progressive was already out). I opened a place in Milan, a disco-pub in partnership with a friend of mine: during that period our life was impossible, working day and night, we hardly slept more than three hours a night… everything turned into a vortex… we couldn’t stand such a life anymore so, after two years, we decided to shut up shop, convinced that life should have been less frenetic and that we surely needed to give our mind and private life a rest. In 2005 I approached again the nightlife thanks to Internet and its forums, Paolo’s one most of all, where you can still meet me every day.
VINYLS 4EVER
I found a completely new musical world: in 2000 music banged, Techno was characterized by hard bass; in 2005 everything has changed: it doesn’t sound weird to me, styles like Minimal and Electro are popular; they represent the music evolutions happened during the five years I was out… Music cyclically changes, the contrast between old and new will give rise to new sonority evolutions, in the future we’ll see the hard bass back and then other new developments… waves… And we’ll buy more and more vinyls… and we’ll always offer music…
NOWADAYS
We could meet each other…each of you… during some nights around Italy… The night world is so charming and slightly malicious… and I do hope to find a new friend in everyone…

INTRO
Parlare di sé stessi non è per niente facile, trovo particolarmente complicato poter descrivere una personalità, anche se la mia dovrebbe essere quella che conosco meglio. Non farò mai una biografia in terza persona perché sono io che sto parlando a voi di me…
Sono nato nel bel mezzo degli anni '70 da madre italiana e padre tedesco quindi sono un ibrido, ho sempre vissuto in Italia ma ho una forte componente tedesca. Mi sono avvicinato alla musica grazie a mio padre: negli anni '60 e '70 ci sono state infinite rivoluzioni musicali e quindi dalla sua autoradio o dai vinili a casa usciva la musica dei beatles, di neil diamond, degli abba, di elvis... la sola differenza è stata per me crescere negli anni '80 con diverse influenze… vasco rossi in italia e nel mondo gli u2, i depeche mode e centinaia di altri nomi che scandiscono diversi momenti della mia giornata ancora adesso…
IL NOSTRO MONDO
Mi avvicinai al mondo delle discoteche da ragazzino, ma la folgorazione arrivò nel 1993 quando degli amici mi portarono all’imperiale di tirrenia, in toscana…
Una musica mai sentita mi entrò nel cervello, un mondo nuovo mi entrò nel cuore…
La musica non aveva confini, ti faceva spaziare con sonorità totalmente nuove…
L’ambiente era incantato: tutta gente che voleva divertirsi senza il minimo pensiero negativo: gente stravagante, che cercava di personalizzare sé stessa invece che uniformarsi alle mode. Fu la prima volta che sentii parlare di “tendenza”: una filosofia, non un trend…
DJ & LOCALI
La crisi d’astinenza era forte già subito dopo: era un mondo da vivere, da succhiare e così iniziai ad andare al duplè, al the west, in taverna Jori, ancora l’imperiale, l’insomnia e poi il jaiss… tanti nomi sui flyer sono gli stessi che ci sono ancora oggi: Paolo Kighine, Roberto Francesconi, Ricky Le Roy, Gabry Fasano, Mario Più, Franchino, Zicky il giullare, Francesco Farfa, Joy Kitikonty, Miki il delfino, Luca Pechino, Sandro Vibot, Roby J... altri sono ormai meno presenti, e ora ci sono tanti nuovi amici… ma che musica mettevano… che emozioni davano…
CONOSCENZE & AMICIZIE
Frequentare come cliente questo ambiente era bellissimo, ma non mi bastava e così iniziai a conoscere tutti gli artisti che si affacciavano nel panorama progressive di quel periodo; all’imperiale mi chiesero di fare le pubbliche relazioni su milano, ma presto capii che non era un lavoro adatto a me; procurai delle serate ad alcuni di loro e quindi i contatti telefonici erano tantissimi.
In questa maniera conobbi una delle persone che ancora oggi è un punto di riferimento nella mia vita…
PAOLO KIGHINE
Paolo lo conobbi telefonicamente nel 1995 e mi colpì tantissimo come persona, di lì a poco ci conoscemmo dal vivo e nacque un’amicizia di quelle poche che si possono definire davvero tali. Iniziai ad accompagnarlo in quasi tutte le serate che faceva, prima come free-lance, poi come resident imperiale poi come resident jaiss ed è un vizio che ancora adesso mi concedo ogni tanto.
Del nostro rapporto personale non parlerò, gli voglio bene e mi rendo conto di quanto io abbia sentito la sua influenza nel crescere, nel come sono adesso e posso solo dirgli grazie. Parlando di lui come artista invece penso che sia il più grande dj italiano del panorama techno.
Stargli vicino non ha fatto altro che spingermi ancora di più verso la musica, facendomi venire voglia di toccarla, di respirarla… e così comprai i mitici technics 1210, mixer, cuffie, puntine e quantità incredibili di vinili e da autodidatta tardivo iniziai a cercare cosa voleva dire…
ESSERE UN DJ
Il dj non è una persona che suona tutti i sabati in discoteca… c’è chi non lo è anche se lo fa, c’è chi lo è anche se non suona mai in discoteca… dal mio punto di vista mi sento dj… adoro essere il mezzo utilizzato dalla gente per divertirsi, mi riempie di emozioni vedere la gente che balla e sorride, un po’ grazie a me. Penso che sia una sensazione indescrivibile quella che si prova…
La più grande soddisfazione me la tolsi quando suonai all’inaugurazione di un locale in toscana: feci il cambio in consolle con paolo mentre al microfono c’era Francesconi… più di quello non avrei potuto desiderare (grazie a Carlo Morgantini, ritrovato recentemente in rete)
SCELTE
Durò poco.. perché nel 2000 inciampai in un altro progetto, completamente diverso, che mi allontanò dal mondo techno (ormai la progressive non c’era più) Apriì un locale a milano, un disco pub insieme ad un amico: due anni di vita impossibile, lavorare di giorno e lavorare di notte, massimo 3 ore di sonno… e tutto si trasformò in un vortice… dopo due anni chiudemmo i battenti convinti che la vita doveva essere meno frenetica e che comunque c’era bisogno di avere un po’ di spazio per sé stessi.
Nel 2005 mi sono riaffacciato nel mondo notturno soprattutto grazie alla diffusione di internet e dei forum, primo fra tutti quello di Paolo dove ancora tutti i giorni potete trovarmi.
VINILE 4 EVER
Trovai un mondo musicale totalmente nuovo: nel 2000 la musica picchiava, la techno aveva la cassa dura; nel 2005 trovo tutto diverso: la cosa non mi sembra strana, generi come la minimale e l’electro sono in voga; sono l’evoluzione della musica che in quei 5 anni mi ha visto assente…
ciclicamente la musica cambia, in futuro tornerà la cassona e poi di nuovo altre evoluzioni sonore… onde…
E allora via di nuovo col compare vinili… e via di nuovo a proporre musica…
OGGI
Oggi potremmo incontrarci… con ognuno di voi.. in qualche serata in giro per l’italia… il mondo della notte è un mondo malizioso e suadente… e spero che ognuno di voi sia un nuovo amico…
