Making records really should live up to what we all dreamt about when we were struggling to form those first few chords in the basement, don't you think? Hell yes.
I've started a project studio, Milltown Recording Company, with the independent musician in mind, and the goal is to live up to the above ideal.
How much do I cost? Meh. Lately it's been really fun deciding on a flat fee per project. Everybody digs ignoring the clock, since the money's not adding up. A comfortable and inspiring environment comes first, so, we'll figure it out. I'm affordable (until Tom Waits and the other big names start calling. *crosses fingers*).
hmmmm, say....
$35/hour
$300/ day (ten hours)
$1500/ album, recorded&mixed! (60 hours)
50% due upon booking. refundable up to 30 days of session's start, after that, we can reschedule, cool? lemme know if you think i just MUST hear your stuff, eh? i love me some good tunes.

We can grab a cup of coffee and talk about your songs, what you're looking to accomplish, and the sounds you dig... Let's make a record!
I've been doing some producing lately too - Laurel Brauns, Jared Dubravsky, Kate Redgate...
If you're interested, we can talk about that too. I'm down for whatever makes for the most fun, bad ass recordings possible. Making a record should feel magical.
I'm still a gigging musician. I play solo now (and with my back up band, Hokum), but for ten years I played in Say ZuZu . We we had a record deal on
Blue Rose Records in Europe. We toured the world and played hundreds of shows in 25 states, and Italy, Holland, Belgium and Germany releasing eight recordings during that time, including a live album of a show in Germany from our final tour in Europe.
I've recorded my own songs at
Ardent Studios in Memphis (Led Zepplin III, Replacements' "Pleased to Meet Me," Big Star, Cat Power etc.), I've recorded a couple CDs with Bradley Hartman at his studio outside Nashville. He's the guy who recorded "On the Road Again" and some of Willie's finest work (Stardust, Honey Suckle Rose) in addition to The Band's "Last Waltz." Hell of a nice fellow. 'ZuZu cut what I think is our best album at Portland Maine's Big Sound Studio with Lance Vardis - another A class guy who produced the "Rooms By the Hour" record from Rustic Overtones. There are a million of other fine studios I've had the pleasure doing a session in for others or to record my own (super-fantastic) songs. I know what it's like to have to play a million shitty gigs to pay off a recording too. I've got loads of invaluable experience that will help you keep on track artistically and financially.Gimme a shout:
