Cantonese Traffic (NEW RECORD OUT NOW!!!)

About Me

Cantonese Traffic was formed in mid-December of 2007. The trio originally consisted of the rhythm section of Feedback (Zac Arnault-Bass; Ian Martin-Drums) and the guitarist of Mallard (Mike Allard). The band formed a unique fusion of a wide variety in genres, including: Blues; Funk; Jazz; Psychadelic; Reggae; and a countless others and is generally regarded as a jam band. In August of 2008 Ian announced his plans to depart from the band, and left the following month. Soon afterwards, the band found a new drummer, Rory Dean, who had been playing with their friends in the Uncle Funkle Trio for quite sometime. Cantonese Traffic's debut album, "Proceed With Caution", was released on April 18th, 2008.For bookings and other information you can contact us at: [email protected] or [email protected] orYou can also call us at:(603) 973-6041Join the mailing list by simply e-mailing us at [email protected]For More Info go to:

Sounds Like: Nothing you've heard, and everything you want. What others have to say:.."Cantonese Traffic finds that middle ground between Frank Zappa, Prog Rock and Bela Fleck. Blazing technical solos are replaced with thoughtful, blues-inspired statements around solid melodic themes. A simple description would be polished gut music. Real, honest, Cantonese Traffic. Dig it."-Thom Keith; Avant Coast Music, Trio Encompas, Equal Time"Cantonese Traffic are a musical elixir capable of creating various musical landscapes with melody and groove. Despite their age, they possess the wisdom and prowess of bands many times their age, and in a world notabley absent of younger bands, these lads are a fresh-air breath in a smoggy sky."-Marty England; Pondering Judd..This is just plain fun"Like it says in the title, this album is just plain fun. It's got that Allman Brothers/Frank Zappa jam feel, but the tunes are all uniquely their own and very solid. These guys have the chops to impress those who are into technique, but that can also rock out with the best of them. If you like 'classic rock' but you're tired of the same 13 songs on the radio, give this a listen"-- you won't be disappointed!"-Derek Miles'Proceed With Caution' by Cantonese Traffic "Listening to the debut disc from Rochester's Cantonese Traffic, it's not hard to deduce some of the young power trio's prime influences. From the opening guitar chops, a rich aura of classic 1960s and '70s blues-based rock suffuses the room. With Mike Allard on guitar and vocals, Zac Arnault on bass and vocals and Ian Martin on drums and backing vocals, the band comes out of the gates with a style that echoes Hendrix's Band of Gypsies, The Allman Brothers Band, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and countless others. Released this year on the band's own indie label, Abdul Jabbar Records, the album has drawn early praise from respected local musicians like Pondering Judd's Marty England and Equal Time's Thom Keith. When Allard rips a prolonged, spine-tingling solo midway through the first track, "And I Stay," it's easy to see what all the hype is about. The next tune, "Sudden Cry," has a darker and less celebratory tone that communicates the band's social conscience. "If Satan is the prince of darkness, then man must be the king, and as humanity crashes down, the cries of the children ring," Arnault sings before a torrent of screaming guitar strings blots out the words." -As seen in The Wire Magazine (May 21st-27th, 2008 issue)To read the full article, click the link:
