G.I.Joe African-American Action Soldier

America's Movable Fighting Man

About Me

I joined the G.I. Joe team in 1965 when I was introduced at Toy Fair in NYC. I hold the distinction of being the first African-American action figure. Unfortunately, Hasbro did not make a new head mold for me, so I was basically a Caucasian G.I. Joe molded in brown vinyl. In 1969, I left the military, but still led an action-filled life in my new role as a "G.I. Joe Adventurer". In 1971, Hasbro finally made me a new and ethnically correct head mold, gave me a cool flocked fro and I finished out my career with the G.I. Joe Adventure Team. While woking with the team, I was promoted to the rank of Talking Commander and also developed my physique as a "muscle body" Joe. I finally retired from service to my country in 1978 only to be brought back in all my original glory for the Masterpiece Edition and G.I. Joe's 40th. Anniversary.
