It’s that time of the year again we dust off our boots, put in our earplugs and enter the underbelly of Vancouver’s music scene known as the Festival of Guns. The Nerve Magazine and SPM MUSIC present The 6th Annual Festival of Guns, “An Outlaw Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Festival” showcasing some of Vancouver’s best musical talent. “Festival of Guns” (so named in reference to rock guitar players often being referred to as “gunslingers”), has been Vancouver’s definitive Indie Rock festival featuring new and established talent from the Pacific Northwest since 2002.Scattered through several different venues that keep the scene alive, Vancouver’s downtown core serves as a setting for the celebration of independent music on the edge of the mainstream. This is the premise of the Festival of Guns, a phrase that represents the danger that is associated with rock n’ roll and a metaphor for the guitar-slinging musicians who work relentlessly to bring it to us!Vancouver is bursting with amazing new talent that is looking to be discovered on its own terms. These “outlaws of the mainstream” are sometimes rejected by radio and retails outlets yet they consistently rock the local rooms packed full of devoted fans who love what they do. The Festival of Guns is a tribute to all things “Independent” in the world of music and caters to an industry thriving from the appeal to be alternative to the mainstream.Due to the success of last year’s teaming of The Nerve Magazine with local promoting force SPM Music, the 2007 festival will be the largest festival to date and, once again, will present the best from the Indie, Punk, Rock, Hard Core and Metal scenes.The Nerve Magazine and SPM MUSIC are excited about this year’s festival and are looking forward to bringing musicians and fans together with colleagues and partners in the local music community to expose new talent and help strengthen Vancouver’s live music scene. With 4 days, 60 bands and 18 shows in 7 unique venues scattered through Vancouver’s downtown core, the Festival of Guns 2007 will feature a powerful package of rock ’n roll. In true festival style, all venues are well within walking distance of each and the wristband admittance will allow for easy access to all the shows.Wristbands will be for sale at local record stores and community partners such as Scratch Records, Zulu Records, Noize to Go!, Red Cat Records, Bonerattle Music, Underworld Skateshop and online at clubzone.com at discounted prizes up until the week before the festival.
