Bergtagen

And his life was a whisper...

About Me

After a few years of living in Texas without any musical success, Jon Rosenthal moved back to Chicago in late Summer 2006. Jon had plenty of ideas in his head and wanted to get them recorded, so he called up a former bandmate, Julus Hi Chu SushiAi Shin (Junwoo "Douglas" Shin), to record.
Genre: Post-Folk/Black/Dark/Doom Metal. I think that about covers it...
History of Bergtagen:
After 3 traditional ambient acoustic songs (As the River Flows..., Autumn Rain and Beside the Hearth) recorded over a span of 3 weeks, Jon realized that he wanted to expand his sound to a more versatile sound. "Paternal Grief" was recorded in the 5th week of the band taking form, with Julus joining in on guitars. This new song had elements of Doom Metal, Black Metal, and Gothic Metal added to the ambient folk roots of the band, and Jon's true vocal ability is shown in this song.
Now with another member added to the band, Jon wanted to record another acoustic song to see what Julus can contribute to the genre, thus giving birth to "Burning Leaves," a more complex and melancholic acoustic song than the previous 3, showing the new acoustic sound.
Julus has left the band for personal reasons and will not return.
In March of 2007, Jon met up with drummer John Sharpe and bassist Michael Nelson to start an Epic Viking/Folk Metal band, but everything they wrote as a whole sounded just like Bergtagen, so instead of being a fag with two bands that sounded the same, Jon invited John and Mike to join Bergtagen, making a full band.
After a few weeks of rehearsing, we decided that another guitarist was needed for practice, so John and Mike decided to give Michael Fioretti, a former bandmate of theirs, a call to fill in for the missing guitar. Needless to say, Mike was a phenomenal musician and a great addition to the band.
On April 22, 2007, a new song was recorded. No vocals or heavy mixing, but still a full band recording. In the next week or so there should be a better mixed song with vocals.

O to the grave where friends are laid, And learn how quickly mortals fade, Learn how the fairest flower must droop, Learn how the strongest form must stoop, Learn that we are but dust and clay, The short-liv'd creatures of a day. Yet do not sigh -- there is a clime, Where they will dwell through endless time, Who here on earth their Maker serve, And never from his precepts swerve. The grave to them is but a road, That leads them to that blest abode.
