"...Steely soft, rough velvet; testostrogen?" -Tod Kennedy, GodsofMusic.com
"..soulful, yet crisp..." -Spark Magazine Melissa Cox infuses the sounds of folk, Celtic and rock with her own distinctive lyrical, vocal and guitar styles. A soprano, Melissa crafts light, yet poignant, vocal melodies over intense, meticulously-picked guitar compositions. Her cryptic and poetic lyrics focus on several topics, including relationships, personal experiences, dreams, politics, women's and human rights, love, lust, sexuality and spiritual journeys.
Melissa opened for Catie Curtis (Vangaurd), Omnisoul (Wind Up), and blues artist Scott Perry (Oh Papa). She has performed at several music conferences and festivals, including the popular Dewey Beach and Millennium Music Conferences. Her song "elijah, elijah" was a folk finalist in the Song of the Year contest, and it received a 9/10 on GodsofMusic.com . Along with her longtime friend and backup singer/flutist, Nikki Gallagher, Melissa has teamed up with Erin Flynn (violin, dulcimer, keyboard, whistles), Matt Smith (bass) and Curt Gibson (drums) to create MYTHICA. The group morphs Celtic, folk, blues, rock, bluegrass, ambiance and World to create a lush, full-bodied sound that transcends time and dismisses the whims of Top 40 radio.
