It’s nearly impossible to mention the name Adam Franklin without simultaneously mentioning the words “Swervedriver†and “shoegaze†all in the same breath.
As labelmates with highly influential bands like Ride and My Bloody Valentine on the Creation Records label, Adam and Swervedriver have made a lasting mark upon countless new bands trying to build upon the foundations laid during this era. While Swervedriver called it a day several years ago, Adam Franklin has been busy releasing ambient pop and sometimes instrumental tracks under the moniker of Toshack Highway. Today, Adam has decided to put this project on the back burner and return to a more guitar/song driven sound under his own name.
Adam’s signature guitar playing and vocals come through strong on Bolts of Melody, while influences from psychedelic heroes Syd Barrett and Arthur Lee, or folk legend Nick Drake, are hinted at throughout. Fans of Adam and Swervedriver have been waiting for a guitar driven record for years. Bolts of Melody is the answer to their prayers!
And our second signing (but will actually be released first), is the by the band that created the namesake for the label- Nada Surf! One of indie-rock's best band's, we're honored to be re-releasing their first EP that started it all- the
"Karmic" EP.

If you’re not familiar with Nada Surf, you haven’t been paying attention to your indie-rock lately. Having released 4 full-length albums over the course of a decade, a live collection, & numerous singles, Nada Surf has managed to survive the wonder of their one big hit, build an estimable army of loyal fans around the world, and thrive through the commitment to the craft of making pop music that’s indellible, warm, and uniquely their own. However, until now, there’s been one piece of their history missing for the better part of a decade- The Karmic EP.
Before their major label signing to Elektra for the Ric Ocasek produced High/Low CD, the band released a 5 song EP chock full of indie-pop gems with catchy guitar hooks and sharp lyrics. Hi-Speed Soul Records is proud to re-release the Karmic EP- the album that started it all. This Karmic re-release will hit stores 6/12/07 and includes a bonus track called “Pressure Freeâ€, only previously available on an out of print 7â€. In addition to the CD, this EP will be pressed on limited edition colored vinyl for the first time.
With Nada Surf currently in the studio recording their fifth full-length, the Karmic EP will hold over fans until the new release in the fall of ’07!
