About Me

Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor - Image Hosting

Born October 20th 1969, I was the son of a home-making mother and an Air Force NCO father. My first weeks where spent in Selma, Alabama until we moved to some airbase in Illinois.

In the 37 years since, I've done this and that. Thanks.

My Interests

Music, Mountaineering, Reading, Power Tools, and various other dope pursuits.

I'd like to meet:

The dude who was standing on top of his Honda CRV in the parking lot of a local Ralphs supermarket last Sunday yelling "Bring It on mother, I'm ready to do something about it" to some other dude in a Toyota Camry who was driving away. To be clear, I only want to meet "CRV Dude". Though "Camry Dude" is probably an overall better person than "CRV Dude", "Camry Dude" didn't really shine in the moment like "CRV Dude" did. Me? I went and got a sandwich. Also, I wouldn't have minded meeting George Patton around the time he was like "OK England & France we can't let them damn commie Russians have a Berlin sector!!" Why Patton? Not sure. I still to this day have to remind myself that George C. Scott is actually an actor and not a grizzled war hero. However, growing up near Hamilton, MA there is a park called "Patton Park" that had an old tank parked in it that my grandmother told me was actually Patton's personal tank. In retrospect that may or may not be true but I sure spent alot of time climbing on that thing. Maybe that's why.

Music:

Music is a big part of my life. I like alot of records and alot of songs. Live shows that have blown me away: Bad Brains (everytime), Oasis (Main Road, Manchester UK), The Buzzcocks (circa the 1990 reunion), Dag Nasty (The Rat in Boston - 1985?..'86? Don't remember), Fugazi (Seattle 1989), U2 in NYC just after 9/11, and Lyle Lovett (The tour I worked for him on).

Notwithstanding the above, the music I like can generally be traced back to The Clash, Love, XTC, Black Sabbath, Big Star, AC/DC, Gang Of Four, The Buzzcocks, Neil Young, Nick Drake, Kraftwerk, The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, The Who, other "The" bands, and Pink Floyd. As a practical example, the more contemporary bands would include Sloan, Jawbox, Silversun Pickups, Mew, Burning Airlines, Ken Andrews related bands, Cave In, The Dandy Warhols, Sonic Youth, Air, Oasis, Catherine Wheel, and Orbital.

From this list, one could surmise that perhaps I feel music took a wrong turn at some point in the late nineties or so. I suppose this is partialy true save for the fact that I give mad props to alot of the up and coming metal bands for once again pushing the envelope, and I look forward to my son finding a band that sounds to me much like I imagine Van Halen's "Eruption" sounded like to my grandmother many years ago.

Movies:

Mac or PC? Mac or PC? Mac or PC?.....oh sorry the question was about film. That answer is easy - the only movie that ever mattered - Spy Kids. Just bustin', Danny Trejo - you are a bad a** and meeting you in the Main Hall of the LVCC during MAGIC is all time top 10, and I ain't even kidding. From Dusk Til Dawn? Hell yeah, homie. Oye ese! Que hay de nuevo?

You know who else kicks major a**? Bob "my UK buddy" Hoskins. You where not at MAGIC, but that's cool - I don't see you starting a clothing line.

Television:

Arrested Development, Deadwood, and Sportscenter (yeah, I'm that guy). I also like to flip between Fox News, CNN, and CNBC in times of crisis be it real or fabricated. Remember, we are at war. Keep your head down at all times. Late night police pursuits with news-chopper 7 are pretty addictive too. What's the over/under on the suspect pulling over and running for it?

Books:

I follow a strict one novel for every non fiction book read. Recent memorable non fiction includes the Tim Berners Lee book on the invention of the World Wide Web and a book about Airbus Industrie and Boeing duking it out for dominance in the global commercial aircraft market. Have you geek awarded me yet? Here is some more fuel for the fire - one of my favorite books of all time was a history of logging railroads in the state of New Hampshire. When I am in fiction mode I'm liking Lee Child and Ken Follet. Yeah, I've got a soft spot for Tom Clancy too.

Heroes:

I like the "man behind the man". For example, Tenzing Norgay - Edmund Hillary's Sherpa on the first ascent of Everest. Very noble of you to let Hillary summit first, Tenzing - you and I both know you could climb circles around that guy.

The Red Sox have clinched their divisional series against the Angels. I am happy but Ian seems non-plussed in the sense that he was rocking his toy keyboard in the bottom of the ninth. Of course, Fr...

It was probably 1990 when I first dragged my ass up the hiking trails that traverse Mount Washington, NH - 6,288 feet or so. By 1997, I had climbed Washington 6 or 7 times and had traversed New Hamps...
