This artist goes by the name of Dubbs. Born and raised in Riverside California, Dubbs has overcome challenging obstacles in his life. He has witnessed his parents being addicted to drugs, Step father beating his mom, & being homeless at 12 years old. Fortunately, Dubbs found the strength to raise himself, put himself through college, and was one knee injury away from the NBA. Still a soldier at heart, Dubbs is doing his first Love: Music. Still wanting to do everything by himself, Dubbs is a song writer, producer, & artist! He calls his music No Equal Music which stands for Nothing On Earth Quite As Life!(Nothing cocky but just real original hip-hop& R&B music).

Grandma, I miss you. “My grandma passed away in 2000 and I couldn’t even deal with the pain until I wrote a song to vent. The song was like my therapy. I still get a tear when I listen to it.
2. What inspires you to write and produce music? Writing helps me deal with the pain of my past, so it’s like my therapy without the co-pay.
3.Who inspires you? Muhammad Ali. No matter what he’s going through in his life, he handles it like a champion. He always was a fearless leader.
4. What is your view on hip-hop today? I love hip hop, but I think that it lacks variety. I think the artist are more about the dollar than they are about the music. In my favorite era of hip hop every artist was different and that’s what made hip hop beautiful.
5. When is your favorite time to write songs? For some reason I always write my best songs in 2am.
6. What is your favorite equipment to produce with? I use a MPC 4000 and I plug a midi board into it, and I run racks with it. I love to chop up sounds and create my own sounds.
7. What is your favorite song of all time? Craig Mac- flava in ya ear. It’s the most original song I have ever heard
8. Where would you love to perform? At Madison Square Garden. Some of the greats have performed there. The arena is full of energy.
9. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Like Rev Run in an oversized tub, typin some quotes in a blackberry. I see myself being able to live comfortably through music. When I’m older I want to be a producer/song engineer/song writer.
10. Who is your favorite female hip hop/R&B artist? Hip hop artist- Mc Lyte because her voice and swagga changed hip hop for women. R&B artist- Mary J Blige because her strength out weighed her skills and kept her music hot for over 10 years.
11. Who is your favorite male hip hop/r&b artist? Hip hop- Run DMC. That’s where hip hop began in my eyes. R&b- R Kelly. He is slowly becoming the Marvin Gaye of our time.
12. Who would you like to perform with? Busta Rhymes (the skinny busta, not the buff one) because his energy is crazy.

14. Who gave you your nickname? My last name starts with a “W†so my basketball couch just started callin my Dubb.
15. What is your favorite era? Late 80’s early 90’s. you had real artist. Run DMC, Tribe called quest, Cl Smooth and Pete Rock, Nas, Black Sheep, Rakim & Eric B., EPMD, and Cool J.
16. What is your favorite album of all time? Tribe called Quest- low end theory. One of the most creative CD’s ever.
17. What type of artist do you aspire to be? An artist with longevity. I aspire to make timeless music and I am looking to have a long career in music due to my creativity. I think that I have the upper hand on most artist because I’m not afraid to be different. I want to be different. I do what I feel.
18. Who is your favorite producer? Timberland because I respect the fact that he can work with so many different artist, keep his signature sound, but at the same time stay fresh and new.
19. Who would you like to work with? R Kelly. That cat is before his time.
20. What do you have in your cd deck? If I’m not listening to myself and trying to build on myself, I am listening to Sade.
21.What is your favorite TV. Show? All of us.
22. What is your ideal woman? She knows that she’s beautiful and she has a smile that will make your heart melt, but strong enough to take care of herself. I like a little attitude.
23.What is the best dish you can cook? I make a mean steak and potato burrito. It has steak, potatoes, gravy, cheese, onions and Dubbs secret sauce.
24. What places have you been to? My basketball career took me to so many places, it is too hard to name. I have been very blessed from that stand point.
25.If you won the lotto, what would you do first? My mom a house just to show that even though she didn’t take care of me, I was still strong enough to grow up and take care of her.
26. What is your favorite holiday? Martin Luther King Day. Martin Luther King stood for everything I am today.
