Jared Hanamaikai (Artist Extraordinaire) is the 2005 People's Choice Award winning costume designer for the Grinch Who Stole Christmas, based on the story of Dr. Seuss. AEA! http://www.grinchmusical.com/ Jared first discovered he had an affinity for the arts when he remade all of the oil & canvas paintings in his church building with crayons and copy machine paper. His favorite was the one where Mary praised Jesus when he came to her after his resurrection on Easter Sunday. In 2005 he won the Ikea Art Contest (see Album titled Serious Lee, Swimmers' Body, to see winning artwork). He wrote whimsical little stories often with illustrations and shocking endings. They most likely represented the adventure video games that he never got into with any computer system. Amazon Princess was perfect for a short subtitled vhs video or cassette tape role play game. His untitled circus piece won the elementary schools first prize in their annual art show. It was at that moment that he decided that his life’s ambition was to move to Hong Kong and make My little Ponies for a living. So he started dancing at age 12 with a Performance team called Fresno City Guys and Dolls Dance Rage. The studio gave him his first sense of leadership and belonging, as well as ample facility to hone his talents and express himself through music. His dreams and drive eventually ended him up at the Ailey School Studios, where he exploded onto the New York Dance Scene dancing and choreographing with their professional training program. Since then he has worked with seven different touring dance companies. Then he discovered he had a passion for fashion design. In 2002 he released his very first Ad campaign and Ready Couture line, “Possibly the best FCUK ever,†for London Fashion Week. Simultaneousley he released fashion music hits: Shiny Disco Balls, Satisfaction, and I see you watching me watching you. Eventually Satisfaction, which he first recorded under group name Plasmic Honey, reached the top of the Billboard Dance Charts in 2005. Meanwhile, he established Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for New York and Smashbox Fashion Week for Los Angeles, where he presented lines for Banana Republic and Johnny Sakalis, before selling the reality show “Project Runway,†to BRAVO networks. He formulated two shows for Cirque du Soleil, Zumanity, and LOVE featuring the songs of the Beatles. He has dabbled in modeling by posing for GAP, Everlast Fragrances, and Sephora, and was the body double for Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain. He founded OUTFEST and reel pride organizations. He has trademarked board games Monopoly Junior, Trivial Pursuit 90s edition, DVD Pop Culture, and Apples to Apples. Upon finishing his Dance major courses at the University of California Irvine, he started up three small digital media dance companies: BARE Dance Theatre, Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company, and Funkonometry before founding his own Arts fringe festival in Fresno California titled the Rogue after his independent film label Rogue Pictures. Jared has won awards at the Silverlake, Sundance, Seattle, Tribeca, and Cannes Film Festivals. Documentaries and Real life Stories seem to be his focus. He believes that his career achievement was making routines for All around Gymnasts, Paul Hamm and Carly Patterson for the 2004 Olympics in Athens Greece. Working with Supermodels Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks, Janice Dickinson, Heidi Klum, Kate Moss, Adriana Lima, Giselle Bundchen, Paris Hilton, Naomi Campbell, and Rupaul didn’t even make him as happy as the day he finally saw an American Male Athlete and an American female Athlete, standing above the number 1 on the Seven continental Ring Olympic Spirit, Stand at the rejoiceful epiphany of the Gymnastic competition. Martha Graham once called them Acrobats of God at the 1984 Olympiad in Los Angeles, where she choreographed the opening ceremonies. It was the watchful eye of Alvin American Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director Judith Jamison who made this all possible. In his spare time, he was able to save his local Chaffee Zoological Gardens, by having new exhibits installed, and securing sponsorship from newsgroups. In addition he just took a walking tour of his fantastical Kindergarten through Junior College State College Community Center Campuses Willow International Center which he designed. Doing large scale art began with his refurbishment of the ARTS plaza on UCI campus in 2005 installing upward jutting rainbow halogen lights lining the walkway of the now breathtaking pavilion. Then he restored the BYU Campus to its transcendent glory with a new Interactive Media Arts Building dedicated to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints founding prophet Joseph F. Smith. The new school in Clovis California will be his first complete project that he would like to dedicate to his mother Kay Ellen Hanamaikai, who has been an educator for over 20 years. Displaying his inventiveness again, he feels exceptionally proud of the underground water purification plant that ascends to the amazing pool deck, which surrounds the world wide sports standardized Lap Pool. His mathematic and philosophical approach to construction can be understood in his published texts, elementary statistics (Triola) and Chief Letuli: father of the Fire and Knife Dance (Watermark Publishing), and Sin & Syntax. Jared directs commercials for local area businesses specializing in Chuckchansi Gold Resort, Fresno Grizzly Stadium, West Hills College, and Wild Water Adventure Park. He is an Alumnus of the Floyd B. Buchanan Educational Complex. He finishes out the year 2007 with his brilliantly choreographed Rockafellar Center Christmas Tree Lighting Special.
