Crew Members
Art Director/ Visual Effects Supervisor
Oversees production of all aspects of a visual effects project undertaken by LSD. Provides creative input to the designing artists striving towards the optimum look and feel for the project at hand.Conducts "dailies" to review the daily work of the individual artists matched with the work of the other artists to ensure a continuous and even flow of work that is streamlined and efficient.
Research and Development
Provides all raw material needed to create and complete any given project. Photographs of real objects, period photographs found and recreated, storyboards, texture development and background information is the daily work of this department. Once all information is gathered in research and development, it is passed to the Art Director who works with the Producer/Director of the project to decide on the look and feel of the project and the chosen pieces are handed back to the research and development team that then work with the artists to create the piece.
Artists
Visual Effects Lead
Creates the main look of the project. He is responsible for the main creation of all environments and main models to be used in a project. Textures are taken from the Research and Development department and shaders for the 3d models are wrtitten in code for the 3d software. Models are generated, and textured with appropriate shaders, lit properly and composited into the scene, reflections and shadows added as part offinal composite.
Particles Lead
Creates all particle effects used in project. Particles are developed to give a project atmosphere. A model created by the VSFX Lead can be attached to a particle simulation to simulate a herd or crowd scene. Particle water or blood used in a shot ads to the realistic look that someone could before only do in dreams or with the painful use of stunt actors. Fire, smoke, muzzle flares, lightning, fairie dust, tears are all part of the particle artists world. Our particle artist also works as part of the digital lighting and texture team with VSFX Lead. Mainly developing shaders from the textures that the Research and Development have provided.
Compositer/Render Wrangler
Composites all VSFX into live-action scene. Responsible for pulling off all blue and green screen mattes, color correction for scene continuity, and all motion graphics. Also responsible for overseeing the renderfarm and insuring there are no hang-ups or glitches with the 3D renders.
