Shroud has been through many changes since their origin in 1989. The current lineup consists of Matthew Craig (Bass/Vocals), Jeff Cole (Guitars), Eric Biesiada (Drums) and Chuck Baughman (Session Guitarist). Having completed their last CD 'Awaken The Ancients' under Craig's label IAE, Shroud has been making a strong effort to promote themselves in the underground metal community. Immediate plans for the band include playing as much as possible in the US & their primary markets in Europe. Over the years, the band has shared the stage with several international artists including Cannibal Corpse, thrash legends Sacrifice, Razor, Massacre, Grave, Superjoint Ritual, The Independents and Macabre. They have also played various festivals with Vehemence, Rune and Mastodon. In the beginning, Shroud established themselves in Buffalo, NY they developed a respectable following in the metal underground with the release of a demo called "Society Subject to Change". Towards the end of 1990 and playing the Buffalo scene, bass player and lead vocalist Matthew Craig departed for Pittsburgh to attend The Art Institute of Pittsburgh's Music and Video Business Program. Soon after, original guitarist Mike Kalmbach then joined him with new drummer Chris O'Leary and started recording and playing the Pittsburgh scene. The band had the chance to do some recording at the Art Institute, Shroud released their second demo tape as well as the first release for Craig and O'Leary's label - Innovative Artists Entertainment. In 1993, Kalmbach was very busy with school and O'Leary was talking about leaving the area, so Craig joined up with guitarist Jeff Cole. They had a temporary drummer join them named Dan Sopata. They played several gigs with this lineup and recorded the Soul Cleansing EP before moving to Florida without Sopata. While in Florida, Craig and Cole had a tough time finding a drummer that was suitable for Shroud. Distance was a problem also, Craig was in Tampa and Cole was in Orlando and had a terrible accident sending him back to his native Indiana. After heading back to Buffalo to find a dried up metal scene, Craig found a new job in Indiana and managed to reunite with Jeff Cole in the process... After recording some new material with drummer 'Tophetarath' of FOG, a CD single had surfaced with the songs 'Persephone' & 'Blessed Chaos'. Tophetarath was very busy with his schedule and was unable to commit full time. Months passed by before the band met up with current drummer, Eric Biesiada. With the lineup in full motion, they rehearsed old material and some new material. After a few months, they recorded and released "Awaken The Ancients" in '03. The most recent news has the band playing about once a month and working on new material for a CD to be entitled "Hecate's Call".
