Originally formed in the summer of 2006, Redshift is a high-energy rock band hailing from the suburbs of Washington DC and is comprised of Jake Mimikos (vocals/rhythm guitar), Sean McCorkle (lead/rhythm guitar), Shawn Battle (drums/vocals) and Paulo Barrera (bass). Redshift’s sound can be described as a synthesis of classic rock, punk rock, hardcore and modern progressive rock. This unique sound is attributed to the varied backgrounds and musical experiences of each band member.
Prior to Redshift, Jake played in the cover bands, Alternate Frequency and Common Ground. Through these bands Jake sharpened his vocal and rhythm guitar skills by mostly playing covers, mixed with a few originals, to boisterous bar crowds throughout the Washington D.C. area. In contrast, Sean previously played in the hardcore bands Old Grey Whistle Test (Richmond, VA), the short lived Floyd (Richmond, VA) and the post-hardcore Coral (Gainesville, FL). Sean’s hardcore roots and love for blues-based guitar rock has heavily inspired his distinctive approach to lead/rhythm guitar. Similarly, Shawn played in numerous PA/NJ/NY area hardcore bands including; Krutch, Comin Correct, Boxcutter and Wisdom in Chains. It was through these hardcore bands where Shawn developed his hard hitting drumming style while also allowing him to tour the United States, Europe and Japan. Finally Paulo, a US Army veteran, was primarily influenced by funk and heavy metal. While stationed in South Korea Paulo helped form the band Transistor, an original rock band, which consisted of Active Duty US ARMY Soldiers and KATUSAs (Korean Augmentees to the United States Army) and toured regionally throughout South Korea.
Currently Redshift continues its relentless efforts of song-writing and self-promotion. Already, through these efforts Redshift solicited Don Zientara to engineer and produce their latest demo at Inner Ear Recording Studios in Arlington, VA. Additionally, Redshift regularly gigs throughout the Washington, D.C. area to larger and larger crowds. Look for Redshift appearing at a venue near you.
