Hi, Andee here. You've found my new project, BLACK SUGAR TRANSMISSION. A brief backstory:I led a band called pOp*stAr*kiDs (aka P*S*K ) for six years in NYC -- a tenure that included the release of three full-length CDs, massive amounts of college radio play, countless appearances in film and tv, scores of delirious live performances and gallons of blood, sweat and hairspray. The band split at the end of 2006, after shifting priorities had made it impossible for P*S*K to continue anywhere near full velocity.Before the ink dried on the press release, I started making new music. Realizing I had access to two of my favorite drummers in the world, Matt Farley ( BULLY ) and Jerry Gaskill ( KING'S X ), I threw them into a studio to record drum tracks for six songs that had been burning a hole in my pocket...Then I built a digital recording rig in my apartment, finished those tunes (guitars, vocals, programming, etc) and found myself at the beginning of a creative streak that has spawned some of the best shit I've ever done (and has already filled up one external hard drive). What you hear on this page is a small sampling of a very large pile of new songs.(I also did a track ["The Ghost at Number One"] for the fantastic, 2-disc Jellyfish tribute album, Sensory Lullabies, which is available here )Over the summer of 2K7 I whittled down this mass of new music to 13 deadly tracks and compiled the debut BLACK SUGAR TRANSMISSION album. The great Greg Calbi mastered it, and it's f*cking gorgeous.The record officially came out on 9/12/07 and has gotten loads of airplay in college radio land this fall (60+ stations).Meanwhile, I've been having a blast inviting special guest performers to appear on new BLACK SUGAR tunes, including Dug Pinnick (King's X), Patti Rothberg and Vernon Reid (Living Colour), and I am in the process of making BLACK SUGAR a real live, kick-in-the-pants rock band. Stay tuned.On a quasi-philosophical note. There's nothing more important to me than writing great songs and being onstage kicking people's asses with music I stand behind with my whole being. Total personal expression is paramount. If you ask me, musicians (and artists in general) who aren't pouring themselves into something they believe in 1000% are wasting their time and squandering their talent, full stop.There's so much mediocre and/or shitty music/art/television, etc in our lives...if you know you've got something better to offer to the world, then do everything you can to PUT IT THE F*CK OUT THERE!
