About Me

The Kidneys were made up of three veterans of the original music scene of Birmingham, AL. The band came together for the first time in September 1998 & immediately knew they had the potential to create something unique. Having watched each other grow up as players in former bands & respecting each others music ability, they had an understanding of the chemistry the band would have before they even played together. As a result the band performed and wrote a diverse group of songs that are difficult to define due to the complex arrangements & the eccentric powerful executions. Influences include: experimental jazz, finely crafted sonwriting, punk & post punk, the underbelly of the New York underground avnt garde, and familiar bands such as the Beatles, Sebadoh, Thinking Fellars Union, Sonic Youth & Captain Beefheart. Thomas Hausen came to Birmingham in 1991 after leaving schoolin New York where he studied Art & Chemistry. He co-founded th 25th Century Quakers,' an aggresive pop group that disbanded in 1993 but still has an influence on the Birmingham music scene He then went on to for 'Palm Tree; the group,' a noise improvisational band. He has also played with 'The Yellowhammers, Two Cop Thoughts, and Chimp says to Squid, Howdy.'Denise Mauldin Hausen (Dennie) began playing bass with the 'Fuzzy Sons' in 1992. The band included Davey Williams, who is recognized as one of the worlds most important guitarists of today. She formed a group called 'Mustache Sister,' a free form revolting 3 & sometimes 4 piece project. She later played in a group with Carson Lamm & Mike called 'The Orchids,' an original pop trio which later became 'Gradyvision,' a unique blend of original songs by Carson & Denise. She also played with 'Little red Rocket," Bojang Whyhigh?," Mauldin Youth," Bleeding Hearts Choir," & 'The Lumberjack Gentleman.' She is Currently playing with "Bleeding Hearts Choir" & "The Grenadines".Mikey 'D' Williams, a native of Monroe LA. began playing drums at the age of 5. He has numerous occasions been compared to John Bonham of 'Led Zeppelin' & Keith Moon of 'The Who.' He was the drummer & one of the songwriters in 'Scats Mistress', 'Southern Cynic Tribe,' & 'Wow & Flutter,' all bands being hard hitting, humorous punk-pop with memorable melodies. Mikey formed "The Orchids" in 1994 where he first played with Denise & led the group on guitar. He has also played with 'Regia,' Cutgrass,' Pyrofish,' 13Ghosts, T-minus Band, Ultrasonic, Bleeding Herats Choir, & is currently playing with 'Shame Idols,' Justin Johnson Band, and recording and sitting in with other local Birmingham bands.
