His independent movement, UPSET THESETUP , seeks to empower artists and communities through aDO IT YOURSELF approach to the development andpromotion of positive culture. The hip hop music he createshas been described as original, forward-thinking, and relevantto life in the present times.
A fixture in his local music scene, PJ has been a guest and resident DJas well as featured performer at a number of venues in DC includingThe 9:30 Club, Club 5, The Black Cat, Nation, Local 16, and TheRitz. In 2004 he was nominated by the Washington AreaMusic Association for both the Electronica and the Hip Hop DJ of the Yearawards – the first dual genre DJ of the year nomination in WAMAhistory. Whether spinning records around town, producing beatsor rocking shows – PJ has built many relationships with artistsin the thriving local music scenes. As a producer and stage DJfor Head-Roche has been an integral part of the progressive hip hopmovement emerging from the Nation’s Capital. They haveperformed together at a number of progressive events, anti-warprotests and peace rallies including 2005’s OperationCeasefire on the National Mall.
An artist with global aspirations, PJ was a selectedparticipant at the 2004 RedbullMusic Academy in Roma, Italy. He has traveled in Europe andLatin America and his self produced original releases have receivedradio play on globally recognized stations including NPR (USA) , Radio 1xtra (UK) ,Triple J (Australia) and NRK(Norway.)
