MALACHI Jazz savants sling stones at the big Pop monster:
Confirmed hit.
Formed in the thick of an August, 2005 heat wave, MALACHI boasts cool urban grooves from their rural, college town turf – Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Carolyn Malachi (Washington, DC - Vocals), Danny Tait (Germantown, MD - Drums), Matt Lewis (Elm Grove, WV - Upright & Electric Bass), and Ken Bussey (Frederick, MD - Guitar) and his homemade Leslie complete the band roster and seal the Malachi sound.
Something about Malachi’s pulse-tripping repertoire of Jazz, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Soul, Samba, Jungle, and other musical flavors transforms audiences into congregations. With the release of their 2006 “Something’s in the Water†EP (Ind.), the young unit found an immediate home on Washington, DC’s historic U-Street and Adam’s Morgan arts corridors. Described simply as “Fresh†by WashingtonPost.com entertainment guru, Rhome Anderson, MALACHI’s passion for playing live is blatant. Carolyn says. “We have a huge responsibility. Fortyfive minutes to an hour is all we have to induce catharsis. Every show is a total, organic rush for us and if the crowd is willing to meet us half way, there’s no telling what magic can happen.â€
Just a year before, the band toured East Coast colleges, playing Campus Activity Board events at Johnson & Wales University, University of Maryland – College Park, Drew University, Onondaga Community College, Allegany College, and their own Shepherd University. Placing the final touches on “Audiograph†(Ind.), the band’s Spring 2008 album release, MALACHI is at it again, preparing for more hot shows in cool college towns.
