AHAB - EP1 - WHITE WAIL RECORDS
"Tender, pleadingly delivered acoustic folk, with the depth and solemn exterior of Tracy Chapman at her most desolate, added to Pearl Jam’s knack for music that’s effecting - a gorgeous ep, soft around the edges, but deep, deeper than a well…"
" I really like "Avenues" - any song around two minutes with a hook is a winner". - Paul Carlin, BBC Radio Scotland.
"Poetic lyrics and strong melodies-Ahab are fast becoming a "Miller Tells Her Tale" favourite. - Karen Miller, Americana "The Miller Tells Her Tale".

****
Superb debut from new kids on the block.
The two talented songwriters who make up AHAB are Callum Adamson and Dave Burn and this release is certainly a major step in the right direction.
All songs are written by the duo and there are some real classics amongst the ten tracks.
With poetic lyrics and strong melodies, this really is an album to listen to over and over again.
Avenues, a song of around two minutes with a superb hook, is a real gem--as a certain radio 2 DJ said "if you hear a good new tune and you wake up the next morning with it still going round in your head , you know it's good." This is certainly true in the case of this track. It doesn't end there either, We Get Lost and Ice River have the same feel, and Callum and Dave's breathy vocals show real emotion and depth. They are also both talented musicians, they play all instruments featured on the album and in particular the guitar playing is truly exceptional.
Just listen to the hook on the above mentioned Avenues and also on tracks such as Breathe and Walking You Home to see what I mean. The vocals harmonies are pitch perfect and cannot be faulted, I was reminded of Crowded House and the Finn brothers style of songwriting and structure.
Save Me is also a killer track, very reminiscent of Crosby, Stills and Nash, with once again superb harmonies. On first listen it's one of thoses songs that you feel you have heard before, but that's because it's so good and naturally easy to listen to. It isn't very often that the melodica is used in recording today, but on tracks such as the title track and Arrows and Hearts it complements perfectly the guitar and vocals, creating an unusual sound--something different. That's what makes album stand out from the multitude of singer-songwriters, alt.country, call it what you will, releasesthat tumble through the letterbox at Maverick towers daily. Its different, it stands out and these guys, deserve to do well.

The album is due for release in the fall of 2007
