[email protected] Natasha Miren was born in Switzerland to a Dutch father and Filipina mother on March 8, 1988. As a child she would tinker around on her grandmothers old piano but it wasnt until the age of 9 that Natasha finally asked for piano lessons. She was taught by ear and later found it almost impossible to pick up note-reading, often cheating by learning her piano homework from CDs at home and disregarding the sheet music entirely. After falling in love with the movie scores of several films, Natasha decided she wanted to compose herself and did so using her piano and keyboard. At 14 she was given a classical guitar as a birthday present and soon took to playing that as well as the piano. After accumulating a steel-string and a stratocaster, Natasha played guitar for a number of unproductive bands, experimenting with genres of music from metal to folk though admittedly the bandmembers never took themselves seriously. In the meantime, Natasha continued to work on her own instrumental compositions and branched into writing jazz and pop-rock songs, though not very well. It is this that she dedicates some of her free time to today but admits to being awful at writing song lyrics despite her interest in writing poetry.
Apart from Switzerland, Natasha has also lived in the Philippines and the Netherlands. Most recently, she returned to the Philippines to record her demo album Northern Lights as a way of preserving her music without relying on notation. Though at 20 she is currently in her second year at the London School of Economics, Natasha hopes to begin composing professionally as soon as possible.
