INTRODUCING THE STRIKEFORCE!
Introducing Singapores largest street percussion band, The Strikeforce! Music, movement and creativity come together in a group of over 70 vibrant people to produce enjoyable performances that anyone can appreciate.The Strikeforces first beginnings were in 2002 when they entered a group of 30 eager young men and women for Singapores renowned Chingay street parade. Their Stomp-like performance was such a success that they were confirmed by the Peoples Association for the next year, then the year after till date, The Strikeforce has played in four Chingay parades.Success breeds success. The group grew and the scale, quality and energy of its performances soared. Various community events followed. In 2004, the group was officially christened The Strikeforce, a name combining the action of drumming with a title typically given to elite police teams, and the name was registered as a trademark.In recent years, The Strikeforce has performed for MediaCorp, Robert Bosch SEA, Canon Singapore, HP, AIA, Temasek Holdings and many government and community organisations, to name but a few. Neither is their experience limited to local performances. In October 2005, they received one of the greatest accolades for any perfoming group the honour of performing in the Midosuji Parade in Osaka, Japan, one of the worlds premier street parades, where they played alongside other top marching bands and performers from around the world in a 3.3-km-long parade watched by about 1.1 million viewers.
In December 2005, they played in Shanghai, China, and this year they continue to thrill the crowds at Singapores National Day Parade 2006 Main Act 1 & 3 and all its related events such as the NDP Appreciation dinners hosted by the Minister of Defence and the Chief Of Defence force. Just recently, they wowed the audience again at channel 8’s ‘Its Showtime’ finals as their guest performers.The Strikeforce is hard to pin down. On the surface, it is part street percussion in the mould of Stomp!, part marching band, part dance and movement, yet this is not even the sum of its parts... The Strikeforce is about trying new things that fill every bill, surpass every expectation, and delight with every new performance. Instruments run the gamut from drum kit to hand drums to anything that makes a sound, from trashcans to cutlery to even parts of the human body.The skills nurtured by The Strikeforce confidence, creativity, and an agile mind and body arent just for the event or the weekend either but permeate all areas of life, making a better student, a better worker, a better parent or child. Additionally, members hail from all walks of life: engineers, lawyers, teachers, homemakers, students; ranging in age from 9 to 57 years, with or without musical experience. This isnt just a club for the young or talented or those who consider themselves hip literally anyone can join The Strikeforce!There are street bands and there are street bands. But in years to come, with creativity and energy, The Strikeforce will be the one that continue to give their best to break the mould of what a street performance band or indeed any band should be.
