a new year . . . a new you.

About Me

call me sybil and catch my show nightly. $40 plus a two drink minimum. just your average music addict/theatre junkie/do-gooder . . . if that is average. i like to travel, go to concerts, musicals, plays and operas, try new restaurants, volunteer with local non-profits, spend quality time with friends, read (fiction mostly) and listen to music as much as humanly possible. i like to keep things upbeat. my friends are my world. i'm mellow, hyper, serious, moody, reserved, silly, so . . . basically i'm saying i'm manic . . . i mean passionate. that sounds better, doesn't it? i tend to ramble and shoot off on tangents as this gibberish probably makes all too clear. My favorite releases of 2007: PJ HARVEY INTERPOL FEIST SHOCKING PINKS BAT FOR LASHES FELIX DA HOUSECAT TORI AMOS THE NATIONAL SIOUXSIEPATRICK WOLF ANNIE LENNOXELECTRELANE ARCADE FIRE BLOC PARTYTHE AMBER ROOMTHE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE QUEENTHURSTON MOORE CLINICTHE CINEMATICS ARCTIC MONKEYS BJORKDEVENDRA BANHARTADULT. M.I.AKENNAPETER BJORN AND JOHN JENS LEKMAN BLONDE REDHEAD HOT HOT HEAT NINE INCH NAILS

My Interests

music, music, music. and by that, i mean good music, which is of course whatever i deem as worthy. i'll be a little judgemental here and admit that i think most people have horrid taste and listen to trash. music, art and my friends are my life. those are followed by (in no particular order) architecture, the vagueness that is design, mid-century modern, fuzzy things, red sneakers, hello kitty, crunchy foods, new york, the performing arts, etc.

I'd like to meet:

honest, sincere, ectomorphic, fun, energetic, breathing, atypical, stable, carbon-based, intelligent, positive, open-minded creatures of any kind.

Music:

siouxsie and the banshees, the creatures, the cure, bauhaus, pj harvey, tori amos, yeah yeah yeah's, suede, the smiths, morrissey, peter murphy, hole, le tigre, adult., radio berlin, marilyn manson, bloc party, feist, depeche mode, curve, bat for lashes, laurie anderson, cocteau twins, lycia, stone roses, pixies, the breeders, echo & the bunnymen, rosetta stone, radiohead, she wants revenge, carina round, the bravery, the killers, postal service, the rapture, broadcast, wire, ladytron, client, sonic youth, hot hot heat, metric, emily haines, love and rockets, kelis, throwing muses, kristin hersh, autumn, the cardigans, new order, basement jaxx, fc kahuna, felix da housecat, miss kitten, the la's, david bowie, the glove, the grates, garbage, nirvana, annie lennox, my life with the thrill kill kult, revolting cocks, ministry, public image limited, the sounds, u2, psychedelic furs, coldplay, the prototypes, sondre lerche, kenna, aimee mann, bjork, placebo, sir, vhs or beta, the the, telepopmusik, rem, prodigy, do you really want more?

Movies:

just the top picks that come to mind...the nightmare before xmas, happiness, fight club, hush hush sweet charlotte, querelle, the virgin suicides, bullets over broadway, ma vie en rose, chicago, requiem for a dream, antonia's line, city of lost children, who's afraid of virginia woolf, suburbia (1984), trainspotting, seventh seal, donnie darko, heathers, welcome to the dollhouse, serial mom, and let's not forget south park: bigger longer and uncut

Television:

no thank you. if you think i have time to indulge in such a subpar and common distraction, you haven't being paying attention to much of what i've said up to this point (but boy, oh boy, did i love strangers with candy!). ;)

Books:

love anne rice and dan brown. there isn't a particular genre i like. it just has to grab me. i recently read the historian, 100 years of solitude and winkie (the story of a wayward teddy bear) and the thirteenth tale and would definitely recommend them. currently reading the thirteenth tale.

Heroes:

who's applying for the position?
