I Gotta Have My Marvel Legends

About Me

"About Me"
I had many jobs working in the Food Service Industry throughout my life and decided that if this was the way I was going to go; then I should get a higher education, a degree to back up my experience. So, I moved back in with my Father and entered college at age twenty-six. I had to obtain my G.E.D. while carrying a full class load, working a job, being a member of the "Culinary Team", and doing various odd projects for the Chef Instructors. It was quite a challenge but, I did well. I graduated "Cum Laude" with a G.P.A. of 3.51 and an Associate of Science in Business Degree majoring in Culinary Arts and Management. I was on the "Dean's List" and was awarded a Gold Medal and The Judges Special Award in the National Restaurant Associations 1989 Foodsalon Competition, in Chicago. (It was quite an honor to receive a Gold Medal, much less to be recognized individually by the Judges.)
Just before leaving college I interviewed with several companies. One of those interviews was with Walt Disney World Company in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. (Orlando) Something in me clicked and I just knew that was where I wanted to be.
So, I packed up my bags and I moved to LBV... Orlando that is,... (Hey wait, I'm thinking of the Beverly Hillbillies!)
I was just amazed at what a huge place this was. So many people, so many opportunities, I had never seen anything like it in my life. I was hired in as an Advanced Culinary and started at one of Disney's premiere resorts The Grand Floridian. After about six months I was offered a promotion to Prep-Chef/Chef's Assistant (Much like an Assistant Manager for the top Chef.) that came with a transfer to Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. I loved it there but, after seven years had passed I decided it was time to move on to the next adventure.
I applied for a transfer to a new resort called All-Star Movies. A few weeks passed and a lady was brought over from the "sister resort" to fill a much needed critical position in the kitchen. We started to talk..., then we started to hang out..., then we started to live together..., and now; we have just recently married (on March 24th, 2006) after spending the last seven years of our lives together!
I unfortunately obtained an injury to my back (Degenerative Disks.) and have been unable to work for the last four years so, I'm the "Stay at Home / House Husband". I do all of the cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc. My Wife has a very demanding "Middle Management" job as a Food Service Consultant for Subway branded restaurants within a chain of "Convenience Stores", that requires a lot of her time both during and after work. I try to do everything around the house so that, when she comes home all she has to do is spend some time with me.
We are just as much in love now, as when we first met! She is my wife, my partner, my lover, and my friend. My life has dramatically changed since she came into it and I can't imagine spending a day without her in it!

I am an avid (Maybe even addicted.) collector of Action Figures. I was "trying" to limit myself to the "Marvel Legends" line but, recently I have started to collect Diamond Select Toys Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis lines as well as trying to catch up on all of their Star Trek lines. (The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and hopefully soon Voyager.) These figures are a little more expensive, (Especially with being pretty far behind and having to use E-Bay to catch up.) but they are worth it. Awesome figures!
Before our last move we had to keep all of my collection in a storage unit for years because all of the places we lived in were just to small for all of my things. Recently though, we have moved into a two bedroom home and I decided to trade off a lot of my collection at a Local Comic Shop for store credit. I let all of the figures I had seconds of M.O.C. go, (About 300 figures.) I took them 10 long boxes of comics and some of the opened ones as well. It really hurt to let them go and I really took a loss in money spent versus credit earned but, I got a lot of new things with the credit that we may not have been able to afford otherwise.

My collection includes; Spawn, Batman (Animated and Movies), Star Trek, Star Wars, DC Comics Heroes, DC Direct, 1990's Marvel, and Science Fiction Movie Lines.(ie; Alien, Predator, etc.) At last count I have well over 2000 Action Figures, Vehicles, and Playsets.
I also collect Comic Books, Magazines, Trading Cards, Hallmark Star Trek Keepsake Ornaments, Hamilton Collection and Bradbury Collectable Plates, Posters, Collectable Stamps, and Shot Glasses.
I used to be into "Gaming" (Playstation 2) but, I had to sell my console. We are waiting for the Playstation 3 to drop in price some more but, have considered getting another Playstation 2 in the meantime.

"Who I'd Like To Meet"

"My Music"

I love all kinds of music; Classic Rock, Rock (From the 50's to 80's), Pop, Country, Classical, Instrumental, and Orchestral. I don't much care for Rap music at all! The Black Eyed Peas are about, as far as, I go into Hip Hop.
I am a big fan of David Bowie, Beatles, U2, The Eagles, Journey, ELO, Pink Floyd, Chicago, Kansas, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Alice Cooper, Boston, Meatloaf, KISS, REO Speedwagon, James Taylor, Rod Stewart, Boston, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jim Croce, Doobie Brothers, Elton John, Janis Joplin, John Melloncamp, Seals and Crofts, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Bette Midler. There are of course, many more but that's all I can think of right now.

"My Movies"

I am elated that some of my Marvel Comic Book characters are finally making it to the big screen and successfully too! (Which hopefully means there will many be more!) I love Science Fiction, Fantasy, Animated, Action-Adventure, Horror and Comedies.
I love all of the Star Trek movies, Star Wars, Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Batman (Old and new.), Tomb Raider, Bond (Old and new.), Terminator, Predator, Alien (especially Aliens.), Underworld, Pitch Black, The Riddick Chronicles, Robocop, Mad Max and Hellraiser.
I'm also a fan of the older and classic movies; black and white dramas, gangsters, cowboys, musicals, comedies and sci-fi. The kind you get on Turner Classic Movies. The Andromeda Strain, The Fantastic Voyage, The Day The Earth Stood Still, War Of The Worlds, Forbidden Planet, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, The Time Machine, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Ghostbusters...
I don't get to watch many horror movies anymore. The wife spooks easily and doesn't care for them. (I love them though!)
There are just so many that this could go on for days trying to name all of the movies that I like.

"My Television"

In our home the "Sci Fi Channel" rules!!!

My current favorite shows:

Heroes (NBC - Mondays at 9:PM EST)

Stargate Atlantis

Battlestar Galactica

Lost

Smallville

Hell's Kitchen

Top Chef

We were big fans of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Farscape, and anything Star Trek.
I also like to watch The Food Network, HGTV, The Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel. I love to watch programs that teach you things. I love to learn!

"My Books"

I spend so much time at the computer lately that I don't really have much time to actually sit down and read a book. Most of my reading is comic books, which I am currently "VERY" far behind on. You can check out the list of comics I currently subscribe to later in this page. When I was younger I would read practically anything I could get my hands on. The Classics, Jules Verne, Mythology, Isaac Asimov, Piers Anthony, J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen King, and anything Science Fiction. But mostly, my reading of late is limited to informative books, such as; Computer "How To" books.

"My Heroes"

My heroes are my parents for putting up with me during my youth, for continuing to support me and love me even through all of the "bad crap" I put them through. And believe me, I tested their strength everyday!
I miss my mother! She passed away eleven years ago, after a two year battle with lung cancer. (August 22nd, 1995. Three days before her 54th birthday.) Missing her doesn't get any easier, even after all of these years.
I'm sorry that she never got a chance to meet my wife and that my wife never got a chance to meet her. I'm sure they would've been very good friends, though. I'm pretty sure she would have been proud of the changes that I've made in my life in the last seven years and that keeps me going.
My father passed away recently after his own battle with Lung Cancer. (February 2, 2007. Thirty six days after his 69th birthday.) He had been sick for a little over a year. His passing came pretty suddenly and even though it was expected it is still difficult. He was a proud, strong, opinionated man who will be sorely missed and often thought of.
I'm proud to be their son. You could not have asked for better parents. For all of the times I should have said it; "Thank you, Mom and Dad. I love you!"

Another hero of mine is my Wife.
She is the real "Super-Hero" in my life!

"When I Was Very Young..."

When I was very young, I remember being very involved in reading Comic Books. They were a great resource for loosing myself in a better, happier fantasy world. (A practice that I still very much enjoy, even today.) I often wondered what it would be like to have "Superpowers". To be able to fly, to leap in great bounds, to be invulnerable to injury, to read someone's mind, to be stronger than the average person, (or, at least "this weeks" bully.) I remember Marvel Comics as being some of my favorites: The X-Men, The Avengers, Captain America, Daredevil, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Hulk, Iron Fist, Namor: The Sub-Mariner, and especially Spider-Man. I think that most of us have some aspects of our lives that we can relate to that particular character. For me it was a sense of having to struggle to "fit in", being bullied by those who didn't understand me (or, care to take the time to try), being ordinary; but yet different, more the geek than the football star. I always found what I was reading to relate to some aspect in my own life. As I grew older, I kind of put them aside for the more "Grown-Up" rebelling, drinking, and partying. I threw all of the old what I had thought to be worthless (Wish I knew then, what I know now!) comics away along with the toys of youth and didn't really even think of them again for many, many years.
Not to long after I moved to Florida (1990) and began working for Walt Disney World, I started talking with a co-worker who I found out was a huge fan of Comic Books and Action Figures. We became good friends and somehow I found myself tagging along with him to his local comic shop. I had never seen that side of it. I always used to buy mine from the local convenience store which had one of those squeaky metal spinning racks. My interest peaked and I found myself asking what he thought would be a good one to read. He suggested what was a very recent new-comer to the market; "Spawn". He told me the story of the artist (Todd McFarlane) who used to work for "The House of Ideas" (Marvel Comics.), that he had gotten fed up with Marvel and wanted to strike out on his own and start his own company (Image Comics) with a character he had been developing while "inking" for Marvel.
That was it boy! I was hooked, again! One Title turned into two, turned into three, until I was buying 60 plus titles a month. Before you know it I had my own "subscription" at the Comic Shop. Then when McFarlane started merchandising Action Figure representations of his comic book Spawn characters another pivotal landmark in my life evolved. Now, I was a Comic Book and Action Figure Collector! I went wild. I had to have it all. (And often did.) Spawn, Batman, Star Trek, Alien, Star Wars, Marvel, DC,... more, give me more.
Well, things have changed a little in the past few years. I still have a subscription (that I try to limit myself to primarily Marvel titles.) and I still collect Action Figures (that I also try to limit myself to primarily Marvel.) but not nearly as much as I did in the past. There is just something about the thrill of the "hunt" for new figures, the elation of scoring a complete series in one store, the heart murmur associated with finding a "Chase/Rare" figure, the smell of paint and plastic when opening a new package. It will likely be something I'll be doing even at age fifty (I'm not far from that now.) and beyond. I love it!

Make Mine Marvel!

Marvel Comics and Marvel Entertainment
"When I Was Very Young..."
When I was very young, I remember being very involved in reading Comic Books. They were a great resource for loosing myself in a better, happier fantasy world. (A practice that I still very much enjoy, even today.) I often wondered what it would be like to have "Superpowers". To be able to fly, to leap in great bounds, to be invulnerable to injury, to read someone's mind, to be stronger than the average person, (or, at least "this weeks" bully.)
I remember Marvel Comics as being some of my favorites: The X-Men, The Avengers, Captain America, Daredevil, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Hulk, Iron Fist, Namor: The Sub-Mariner, and especially Spider-Man.
