MISS KENICHI
Songwriter Katrin Hahner, born in 1977, is a so-called multi-talent. After finishing acting school and while she worked as an actress, she decided to study arts and painting in Stuttgart and Berlin art academy.
Then a guitar came around. “Music was my life-saver.There was always great confusion about what I should do with my life and I was terrified by the future, but then came the songs and I calmed down. It was like coming home. Everything made sense. There was a direction. And stories to tell.”
Sitting in her studio, unable to paint, she wrote song after song. Performing them, the crowd of listeners got bigger and bigger and as a consequence she went on stage and played 150 shows in two years.
Finally she recorded her first album “collison time” . And met Henrik von Holtum, a classical bassist and mc of the German hip-hop duo Kinderzimmer Productions. He liked her stuff so much, that he first accompanied her on the double bass during the shows and then put her album out on his label Kinderzimmer Recordings/ Rough Trade. Later it was released in Italy, by Alphasouth Records.
The album is about travelling, a melancholic, pure and honest attempt to find a “place called home” in the world. It stirs between folk, independent and country, but with its own temper.
Being the daughter of a trucker, she travelled a lot when she was a little girl. Visting all the great cities, for example being to Paris ten times, but always strolling around in the outskirts and never getting into the postcard, was a strong experience.
“I´m interested in uneven paths, not in the main places. I like unaffected, but profound stories. I like to observe people, and be moved by their stories. I want to hope for something, make things better, not drown in desperation. And I like a good joke.”
You can find some fine humour in the album, a quality, you can especially experience in her live shows, where she appears a s a very charming, charismatic and humorous person.
By now, she gathered some other musicians around her and the second album is taking shape.
