About Me
Adnauseam formed in 1987 under the name Decimation. Still in high school their original idea was to be a thrash metal act. With original members Brian Kohn-drums, Jake Seay-guitar, Chris Harrison-Guitar and Christian Petersen-Bass/vocals. With the rising death metal and grind core scene surfacing in Europe Decimation was slowly changing their style of writing, becoming faster, vocals becoming deeper, guitar tuned down. They were highly influenced by this new genre blasting out the thrash competition. After several basement tapes Decimation went into the studio and cut a 4 song demo entitled manifestation of terror. This demo was only really passed out to friends and a few local magazines. The demo did get good reviews but it still did not really capture the essence of what they were trying to accomplish.Later on in 1990 Jake Seay left the band to pursue his professional career. Going on as a 3 piece Decimation changed their name to Adnauseam, now fully a death core act they revamped most of their songs and Chris Harrison started some growling of his own and some definitive screams. Thus, Chris and Christian would trade off vocal duties from now on.As time passed Adnauseam played several shows, they played with some great bands as well, Asystole, Violent Degenerates, Sadistic Intent, Dismembered Fetus, and the Acid Pigs to name just a few. They recruited long time friend Steve Goldberg (now of cephalic carnage fame) and they headed back into the studio. This time cutting another demo entitled another horror of life.Another horror of life was recorded and released in 1994. This demo sent Adnauseam into the underground where the demo got excellent reviews and launched Adnauseam to start playing outside of Colorado with acts like, NOISEAR, FLESHGRIND, MACABRE, DEADEN. Playing out of town was something they had always wanted to do, and this also helping the promotion of the band.In the meantime, ADNAUSEAM had side projects as well, Christian with Throat Leech, a grind core act devised of just him playing guitar/vocals and Brian Kohn-drums and vocals. And also doing a noise core band called FESTERING PUKE with ACE of Dismembered Fetus and Nic of Yeast Infection. And he would also lend his bass abilities to another local band called Maleficium, and also vocals for grind core/comic band called T.H.C. (traumatic happy children). Brian would perform drums with SEWER GRATE another grind core act and Steve with Cephalic Carnage. In early 1996 Christian left the band to play with DISMEMBERED FETUS, he was drafted into the band as a guitar player and this is something he had never done and could concentrate on just one instrument.
This leaving the bass and vocals duties vacated. Quickly Adnauseam gathered themselves and recruited Zac Jo (cephalic fame) to play bass and handing off all vocal duties to Chris Harrison.Just one month later Adnauseam entered into the studio to record desire, aspire, inspire, expire. With Zac, Steve, Brian and Chris Harrison.Desire, aspire, inspire, expire saw the band re-record some of their older tunes and grind out a couple new tunes as well. Even though this album was never mastered it was released as a rough death/grinding feel and received great reviews and some bad ones as well. Adnauseam never defined this album and was felt pushed to release it after it sat on the shelf for a few months and Chris and Brian not fully accepting their new effort and thinking it was a throw away. In between all of this Brian pushing the band 100% and devoting all his time into Adnauseam, even as far to travel to outside shows like metal fests to promote. After a few shows, the band took a little break allowing them to concentrate on their side projects. After a few months Christian came back into the fold in 96 and Zac went to fully concentrate on Cephalic. After a few shows the band decided to call it quits and play their final show with Incantation and Vital Remains.Brian and Christian continued with Throat Leech, Steve went to play full time with Cephalic Carnage and Chris Harrison went back to school and pursue his college degree and professional life.Brian and Christian played a few shows as Throat Leech, recruiting ACE from Dismembered Fetus to play bass with them (some live downloads can be found on the internet). After the shows and several rehearsals, new songs and tiring hours. They decided to go back into the studio. Now even though Adnauseam had played their last show, Brian and Christina got to thinking that if they release the new stuff as throat leech they are starting from square one again promoting themselves, and no one out side of Colorado really knew the band broke up so they said they would release the new CD under the Adnuaseam name and skip all the non sense. With short time to prepare, ACE broke his hand and Christian would have to finish the bass duties. And with out the guitarist position they brought back Steve. Now with ACE and a broken hand, Christian on bass again, they needed one more person, Zac would come back and they headed into the studio to record lives of lies despise and demise. In late 99 they would record, and the CD would be released in June of 2000, a late release because of bogus record deals and bad expectations on the bands behalf from the labels them selves, they released it under the Independent Sickness label they had been toying with for several years and ACE exploded with the name and boomed it into a great distribution and a label. The year 2000 brought the band to a new level, and the new CD was something they were very proud of and it received rave reviews as a grind core/ death metal classic. Not a Terrorizer classic but a classic all its own. The band right now as I would like to put it is on a long hiatus Steve and Zac busy with Cephalic, Brian busy with studio sessions and Christian doing vocals for Zombie Hate Brigade. I say never say never but you never know, even though the band is inactive doesnt mean that something can not surface in the future. For now enjoy the songs, check out some the reviews, and search the internet for the Lives of lies despise and demise CD, there are few out there.
