The band started by the end of 2004, in the city of Juiz de Fora, in Minas Gerais State. By this time the band was known as "Maquiavel" when, subjected to some modifications, it received its original name, as well as a new formation in 2005. The name, Stagnum Ignis, refers to a quotation from the Apocalypse ("Stagnum Ignis et Sulphuris", lake of fire and sulphur).
In December of 2005, the band started taking part in festivals, gaining ground, the first place of the VIII Festival de Bandas do Centro Cultural Pró-Música - which is a well-known festival in the local rock/metal scene - and a lot of individual prizes such as best singer, drummer, bass and keyboard player among the best performances along the presentations.
So far, the band has been presenting a new and creative sound, mixing different influences.
The setlist has covers from bands which focus on those styles. However, their own songs are more important. Throughout a constant process of composing and evolution, Stagnum Ignis has been growing in the local scene, doing a couple of performances.
