About Me

Who is thaidup??

Just a gen x geek chik having a midlife crisis.

But to use that spewy phrase, there's sooo much more to me!! Compassionate, humanitarian, caring, stylish when I can be bothered!!!!

I should mention that the pronuciation is thai'd up which is about my love of Thailand, not bondage. Just thought I'd clear that up.
Things what I like: good stuff
Things what I don't like: bad stuff
(Meaning: what I like is good, what I don't like is bad - and that's all you need to know :)
What I do: by day I am a humble public servant, by night a budding e-commerce Queen! I have taken my supreme ability to accessorise and turned it into a website (as you do) which sells fab jewellery. Eventually I'd like my web business to partner with south-east Asian charities. The small beginning of all this iswww.thaidup.com.auWelcome to my e-world. Myspace is a feral little universe but there are many good persons about here. I'm sure you're one of them. Feel free to hang around for a while and enjoy, or blog off somewhere else - whatever floats your boat.
May good karma be yours to get and give

My Interests

Planning my next midlife crisis world tour, trying to learn Thai, modern history, web development, pop culture, architecture, trying to become an e-commerce queen, blah blah blah, too many to list

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet lots of famous people so they can be my friends. NOT....

Nobody who puts trademark or copyright symbols after their names - taking yourself too seriously, people!!!

Whether famous or not - people with keen wits, open minds, adventurous spirits and a willingness to grab life by the throat...cos you don't know when the joyride will end.

You've been marked on my visitor map! Click to zoom in.

Music:

Any muso on myspace who wants to be my friend. NOT...

Eighties, electronica, funk, punk, industrial, jazz, blues, some world music (sorry can't handle the nose flutes of the Andes) and anything else that has a decent tune.
Fav artists include Jamiroquai, Groove Armada, The Police, Sex Pistols, Robert Cray, Eric Clapton, John Butler Trio, Cat Empire, Gerling, Goldfrapp, Buzzcocks, Dead Kennedys, No Doubt, Duran Duran, Rammstein, Sneaky Sound System, Dragon, Sherbet, Blondie, Elvis Costello, Midnight Oil, David Bowie, Culture Club, Grant Green, Blind Boys of Alabama, Moloko, anything Neil Finn's been in, Icehouse, The Whitlams, Little Birdy, The Presets, anything Ross Wilson's been in, Alex Lloyd...and the list goes on. Currently lovin' the cool electronica acts coming out of Europe like Kraak & Smaak and Digitalism. Have tickets to see Steely Dan in September for their first tour of Aus, wheee!! All music is joy and should be embraced. Well, maybe not country and western or Celine Dion.

Movies:

Oh I dunno, a good comedy or somethin' or nothin'. Don't really have the patience for movies. Although I still cry at the end of 'Out Of Africa'. Highly recommend 'Standing In The Shadows Of Motown' to music fans everywhere.

Television:

Big thing in the corner that sucks your brains out

Love British comedies, Sex And The City, and Chaser's War On Everything although I can't work out why Chas hasn't been arrested again, especially when he flashes his bum so much. Also like design/reno shows like Grand Designs. Trinny and Susannah rule! Thanx Trinny for teaching me how to hide my arse as far as is possible!
Did I mention I'm obsessed with Thailand?

Yeah, pretty much obsessed

Books:

They're those big papery things aren't they?
George Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London
E H Carr's WHat Is History?
Complete scripts of Fawlty Towers
1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (that's if you don't die listening to some of the recommendations - are the White Stripes REALLY that musically important?!)
Any good biography
Stupidest thing I have doneGot to my mid thirties before realising living in your insecurities is a complete freakin waste of time and energy! Don't make tha same mistake young'uns!!!

Heroes:

Xena Warrior Princess because she kicked arse and looked good in the process
Taylor and Khoo, 2 Aussie chicks who turned a trip to Cambodia into a business whose entire profit helps Cambodian orphans.
Noel Pearson, probably the finest, most perceptive and most articulate advocate of Indigenous rights Australia has seen.
John Butcher, a fine man and even better teacher who saved my academic career and helped me believe in myself when my world was imploding around me.
...and everyone who has emerged from adversity and despair with their hope and sense of humour intact.
