Originally from Hackney, London, Nic moved up to Chester 18 years ago; this is where he currently resides. Nic has been passionate about music from an early age.
Nic got his first set of decks in 1998 after falling in love with dance music and the club scene surrounding it. To begin with Nic played an eclectic mix to discover his own style, playing everything from Classic House, Happy Hardcore, Hardcore Techno and Breakbeats. He rapidly moved on to buying mainly Progressive House and Techno as he loved the electric, pounding sound which was being played at the clubs at that time.
By 2000 he was playing ‘Slice of Funk’ at Loaf, which, at the time, was one of Chester’s biggest house nights. He played alongside DJs such as Eddie Halliwell and Anthony Probyn at Cheshire’s popular ‘Addiction’ night which was voted club of the month, above Bugged Out, in November 2000 by Ministry, and was also highly acclaimed by Mixmag and by Pete Tong on Radio 1. He held his own night 'Abstact' at North, Manchester and in addition to this he played to a crowd of nearly 2000 people at Oulton Park Conference Centre.
In 2001, Nic decided to embark on the production side of the music industry to widen his DJ opportunities. His decision prompted him to move back down to London to study Audio Engineering at SAE (School of Audio Engineering) and in turn, learn more about recording, production, remixing and the music industry in general.
Back in his home town of London again, Nic held his own night, ‘Bare Necessities’ at ‘Public Life’; played at ‘The Egg’; and also at ‘Passion’, the reopening party of ‘Mass’ and even played at a few local squat parties too…
In 2002, after completing his studies, Nic moved back up to Chester. Chester, for many years, did not cater for any music scene in particular, so for Nic, who aspires to be more than just another generic House / Breakbeat DJ, decided that playing to Chester’s Saturday night meat markets was not an option. So he decided to focus his efforts on his production.
In the last 6 months, Nic has become a regular guest DJ at ‘Surgery’; one of Chester’s most exciting underground nights which has acquainted the small city of Chester with DJs such as Lottie, Audiojack and Tristan Da Cunha.
After experimenting within a variety of genres over the years, Nic’s sets now mostly consist of a mix of Filthy House, Breakbeat and Techno.
Nic’s open-minded attitude towards music from an early age is evident in his mature yet fun approach to his DJing... he isn’t afraid of dropping something a little different in his sets. Nic’s production incorporates an interesting mix of House, Techno and Breakbeat, which is always acclaimed by listeners and has always urged even the shyest of asses to shake on the dancefloor!
